Does anyone know of Uber alternatives in NZ, maybe even locally based?
If you know of them, have you used them? How do they compare price & service wise?

  • Zoomy (first one I heard of operating in NZ, even before Uber) Also seems like HTTP only.
  • TakeMe
  • Ezygo

Are you maybe even a driver of one of these services?

I use Zoomy where possible and their drivers prefer the service over Uber.

Typically prices are very similar to Uber, but it supports local businesses.

Q. Where can I get a ride to?

A. Currently, we’re just launching in the Wellington and Palmerston North regions.

The following kinds of rides are facilitated by Chariot:

  • Intercity / long-haul trips (i.e. Palmerston North to Wellington)
  • Commuting (i.e. recurring trips to works, uni or school)
  • Inner city / short-haul, one-off trips (i.e. from/to event, shopping, a night out)

OHPEC are an Auckland-based service that only use Tesla cars. I've used them a couple of times and it was really good. They have an app for Apple and Android. It works much like Uber. Priving was a bit higher, but the cars are *awesome* - glass-roofed Tesla Model X. Nothing else like it in 'Taxi-world'.

But......the owner announced today - like 2 hours ago - he's closing down after February 14th as they aren't getting enough business. From what I could see, he lacked the capital to be anything other than an instant success.......

I used the service a couple of times. Pre-booking was risky at $3 / minute if the traffic went sideways.....but the Uber-style casual service was very reasonable.

That's unfortunate. First time I've heard of it.

Thanks. I'll have to give them a try. I do have to wonder why their sign-up page is over HTTP only.

That is unfortunate. We need the competition. I've seen his Teslas parked in town but never any advertising.
