So rather than just nipping down to local petrol station to inflate my tires, I need to go to a specialist tire place to inflate tires with N2...

I asked Tonys Tire Service and they charge for refills, though free tire pressure check lol.

If it’s good enough for a F1 car it’s good enough for my 10 year Corolla. This has to be one of the biggest scams out.

Bung:

Just to clarify, did you fill one side with nitrogen or 1 tyre on each side? Usually the tyres on the left get a harder time with more potholes and road debris. If you'd left that side filled with air the experiment might be biased.

In any case even though I haven't had a puncture in over 10 years I still regard nails and screws as more of a problem than slow leaks. Having nitrogen wouldn't reduce the amount of checking.

 

The nitrogen went in the left hand tyres.  The right side tyres clip traffic islands and roundabouts occasionally, so I'm not sure how much difference there really is.  Ideally I would have needed about 20 tandem trailers to get a nicely balanced experimental design laughing

 

I have a steelmate tyre monitoring system on the trailer,  to monitor the tyre pressure.  Good system.

Most places that fill with nitrogen, offer free refills.  At least, based on the reading I've done on shop walls where they offer nitrogen fill.

 

Proper tyre pressure is more important than keeping a pure fill in your tyres.
