....

...It sounds like an awful lot of labour for such a minor upgrade.

I’m not sure I would want the dealer doing invasive work like this for something that’s not really essential.

I have service manuals for removing plastic in almost all popular models. Hauling of two cables could be a small challenge but hey people install rear cameras with much more labour involved.

My idea of testing was absolutely non-invasive: i.e. in Axela or CX-5 removing computer is ~5 minute. Put my computer in and without hauling the cables and without replacing the hub - we could just connect the HUB outside to test how all things will look and feel on the go. Then put everything back - another 5 minutes.

Has anyone had any luck from their local Mazda dealer about upgrading to this?

I've just upgraded to a Mazda 3 with a compatible system but my local dealer knows nothing about this and the reception lady noted she has had a few phone calls regarding this.

I did send an e-mail to Mazda Headoffice in Auckland who basically said yes it is available and the dealers should know about this so I'm going to stay on their back.

There is a huge thread on mazda3revolution.com where it has DIY instructions, but given I still have "new car warranty" I'm not so keen to DIY it.

When I last had my car serviced I asked the technician at Capital City Motors about it and he said that Mazda were still working on it. That was a month ago, so I’m not sure if that particular dealership is still in the dark.

How new does your Mazda need to be to be able to use this? A family member has an '08 Premacy import and may be interested in this.

I spoke with the service technician at my local dealership.  He recalled hearing something about it, and went off to search through his emails and found it.  Confirmed they could do it, but I would be the first they had done.  So I believe they can and are doing them.

It won't work on an old vehicle like this. You need a 3rd generation Mazda3, or any other model generation released since then.

Capital City Mazda will install this now. You’ll be paying about $500 though, ex GST. I can’t remember exact figure.

Info from USA which I wanted to put to the test is that they say new Mazda System AA+CP does not have touch screen activated in Android Auto.

Alternative system for Android Auto which does not require HUB+cables has active touch screen. Tested with the very latest version. On the latest FW it does not work via USB but only work via WiFi. Which means if you are not the Apple fan and use Android smartphone - you may wish not to upgrade to the latest version. On previous versions it work fine via USB.

Its for the current Mazda Connect system so about 2014 and newer across the range, excludes the 2014 CX5 where its system is based off Tomtom software

This sounds cheaper than buying a Maps SD card for it

This was only released a couple of weeks ago. I was speaking to the guys are Mazda parts DC and they said about $400 +GST and involved 1.5 hours labour. RUKI any interest in offering this service to NZ New vehicles?

I still don't know why the USB needs to be uprated to 2.1A to work.

I think I'll leave mine  for a year and stick with the default  TomTom one   which i will get updated when the car has it's first service next year.

Zero interest in upgrading mine at that price. Price will probably be higher in Nelson as there is only one Mazda dealer.
