... RUKI any interest in offering this service to NZ New vehicles?

I still don't know why the USB needs to be uprated to 2.1A to work.

New USB Hub differs significantly on the hardware level.

As per the title of the topic - volunteers with iPhone are no longer required. Done on New Zealand New Mazda 3 today, see few photos below.

Had the AIO tweaks for android auto installed on an older firmware. Dealer decided to upgrade it to version 70 and it wiped Android Auto. Anyone know where/how much the new USB hubs are? Otherwise I'll have to serial into the CMU and reinstall the AA tweak/downgrade the firmware.

I have android auto in our Outback - it's great, but not sure if I would stump up $600 to add it to a car without.

If I was buying a second hand Mazda, I'd agree the price and, then, ask them if they were prepared to upgrade media system for no extra charge. If no, I'd thank them for their time and say I'll keep looking. (I reckon at that point they would give).

The more I think about it, the more I feel like I would rarely make the effort to physically plug my phone in when I get into the car. For listening to audio bluetooth works perfectly fine.

I think an induction charger would be a more useful feature than CarPlay, which is something I want in my next car and it's interesting that none of Mazda's current models have this.

Great suggestion, I did just that today with a second hand 2016 Mazda 6. The dealership is doing the retrofit included in the price and got free delivery too.

I wondered if anyone who has actually done this upgrade can confirm for me:

My understanding is that Mazda completely disable the touch screen when driving more than 5km/hr. Does this mean that when driving and using CarPlay, the only way to control the interface is using the jog dial near the handbrake switch? Or is there an ‘exception’ for CarPlay?

Assuming touch is completely blocked I’d welcome comment on how much of a pain this is.

I’m used to CarPlay with full touch functionality during driving (Ford SYNC3), and I expect the jog dial to be a PITA, and also to be frustrated having to remember to do touch tasks while the car is stationary.

Thoughts from those who have done the upgrade would be welcome. I’m comparing a CX5 to a Tucson and the Hyundai CarPlay implementation doesn’t block touch functionality while driving so appears clearly superior from what I can tell.

On my CX5 I have never attempted to touch the screen while driving for safety reasons, but my friend attempted it while in the passenger seat last weekend and it appeared not to work.

I actually never use the touch screen even when stationery as I don't like the discomfort of reaching out for the screen or getting fingerprints on it, however I will admit that the scroll wheel is a somewhat awkward alternative. When driving I just use Siri if I have to interact with the system.

Thanks. Can you activate Siri by pressing the voice button on the steering wheel while CarPlay is running?

Yes. I have successfully used it to play podcasts, read out messages, dictate replies, set reminders, even turn the lights on as I arrive home. From a safety point of view I strongly recommend using it in favour of the touch screen.

However I am unsure of how well it works when you have no 3G/4G coverage. My understanding is that Siri requires some form of connectivity to work, but others may be able to clarify.

Parts needed for Carplay had arrived.

Japanese Imported Mazda owners can now have:

- English;

- New Zealand Radio;

- Carplay

- Android Auto

- New Zealand Maps

Hey @RUKI

I'm considering buying a Japanese used import with the Mazda MZD Connect System. Can you confirm that overwriting the Japanese firmware with the local region English firmware means you don't need an FM band expander to receive local FM frequencies? The local Mazda dealer says you still need an FM band expander.

Interesting to know. Subaru don't lock the screen while driving / using Android auto.

Android auto would be a PITA to use without touch screen.

I believe you still need a band expander.

I overwrote a Demio on Jap firmware with ADR and it's all in english but you don't get all the radio frequencies. I don't care coz everyone uses Bluetooth now anyway. You do lose DVD functionality too but that can be enabled using Mazda tweaks if you really want.
