Got another flat (front wheel). Pinch flat.

Managed to get the tube out - took hammering at the valve with a rod and hammer to get the valve out.

Now i can't get the new tube's valve back in - the stem is just too long. This is one of the spare tubes that come with the scooter

Any suggestions? Saw a youtube clip where they took the panel off the wheel (exposing the motor) but that seems a bit extreme.

I've ordered a solid tyre so I won't have to do this again but that could take weeks to arrive.

I can't help you with how, but I ended up taking mine (rear) to a local bike shop to get the tyre back on. That might be your best bet for the valve bit too...at least they have all the right tools and expertise...

Pinch flats are generally caused by underinflation (as I have been informed was the cause of my flat tyre last week). 55PSi is my go-to and I have now got slime in my tyres too...I also am now checking my tyre pressure every week.

This tyre repair issue is a clearly a pretty big design fault - no vehicle with pneumatic tyres should be this difficult to repair. I’m not sure if I’m keen on switching to solid tyres, either, as I’m sure that’ll have a decent effect on ride quality. @logo - it would be great if you can report back on how you find them (once they arrive!), and even on how your repairs of the front tyre go in the end.

I rode over broken glass on the way to work (clearly don’t learn as it as there yesterday!). Given I bought some Slime on Saturday (25% off everything at SCA!) and haven’t installed it I’m kinda asking for it. (Same with the brake cable mod...)

I wonder how tyre changes go with the “pro” scooters, eg that Zero 10.

Actually, I wish I never knew about these flash ones, as I’m sure I’ll be desperate to upgrade soon but just can’t justify the cost!

I haven't got my Zero 10 yet but I anticipate that the extra acceleration, speed and ride quality will mean I use it more than my M365 so it will eventually be justified.

hmmm...I just know I am going to end up hating you for having that Zero 10 at some stage....or at least my wife will. cool

There's a plastic bit in the valve hole on the wheel which is making it difficult for the valve to get through. I guess it's there so the valve is a snug fit (too snug!) and doesn't wobble. I did come across this video which involve disassembling the wheel to remove the plastic bit but it seemed a bit OTT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt-b2dD0gng

I did think about drilling through the plastic bit to make it wider so the valve can get through but luckily I came across this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoorD-iSFPs

Basically sticking the valve in as far as it can go and then using a screwdriver on the other side to leverage it up so the valve pops through.

Only 48 views so not exactly a popular video but it was exactly what I needed

I'll run with the tube for now and put the solid wheel away until the next time I get a puncture.

I'm glad you managed to get it sorted, and thanks for posting the link to the video above - I'm sure I'll be referring to it when I get my first puncture!

Your tyre problem was enough to get me over my inertia, and when I got home tonight I put the Slime in the tyres and also installed the brake light cable protector piece. (Interestingly, I watched one guy putting Slime in his tyres and it seemed really fiddly but, in reality, he made a hash job of it -it was straight-forward!)

I can see how the tyres can get pinched when under-inflated; mine have remained well-inflated, but when I let the air out I could see how the problem would develop.

As for other maintenance issues - I can feel a little flex in the hinge now, and a slight metallic noise when I'm riding; should I be moving up to the middle rubber 'washer' thing in the joint, or adjusting the hex bolt? Thanks for any advice.

I've been playing around with custom firmware - have got some tested packages here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14iChAntgnwuGlsmT8WcvrpJ6OuhfrUo2?usp=sharing

I took the plunge and decided to trial the different DRV138 firmware versions. First stages of these instructions went swimmingly - downgraded to 140 and reflashed the BMS binary (though it reported this same version after the downgrade of the firmware anyway).

Then I tried to load the various DRV13 firmware and got the same error message each time - 'invalid bin' (see screenshot below). @michaelmurfy - are you able to provide any tips as to what might be going wrong here? I'm using the m365 DownG app referred to on the site you linked to - I assume that's the correct app?

If I have no luck with getting this working, I guess I'll return to the 'original' firmware, but I am keen on getting just a little more from the scooter - no issue with top speed, but just could do with a bit more pep off the mark.

Thanks heaps!

Yep, all files sourced from your Google Drive as per the link in your post; that is the correct firmware flasher, yeah?

I got a Xiaomi M365 from Container Door, think it was the 2nd round they did. Was meant to arrive in Jan but it arrived before Christmas, while we were away, courier company left it at our front door, we're on a private driveway but front door is visible from the trains that go past, surprised it wasn't signature required considering the cost.
I struggle to walk a bit, and usually take my bike from home to train station to work, only about 2km, the scooter means I'm not limited on train choices (Wellington), I also go between 2 work sites sometimes. The scooter is great for zipping around, but it doesn't easily fit under the seats on the train though so I usually keep it unfolded and hold the stem with the body under 1.5 seats. The rear wheel was quite 'sticky', the brake disc was rubbing on the brake housing (?), so I couldn't fix it by adjusting tension on the cable or the bit that holds the pads. Container Door asked me to send it back for their mechanic to look at it, they sent me a new scooter after a few days, I didn't have to pay any postage.

The new scooter made a series of beeps the first time I turned it on, 3 short 1 long, google it, means the brake sensor wasn't right, I squeezed the brake lever a few times and it stopped beeping, CD said I could send this one back too but I said I'd see how it goes. A week later it beeped like that again after rider over a wee cobble stone type area, again it went away after squeezing the brakes a few times.

I ride on the footpath when I can, it's not busy in Trentham, but too busy in Wellington usually so I go on the road (as left as possible, even between parked cars and the limited cycle lane on Featherston St) or round the waterfront if I have extra time. I wear a bike helmet, I've fallen off my bike before, the scooter feels high too, not worth the risk. Pedestrians are great at getting in the way even when you try to avoid them, or walking onto road between parked cars without looking.

First puncture yesterday, where are people getting new tubes from? My scooter came with a set of chunkier rubber tyres (image), thanks to post above I look at them today and they both have a tube inside! bonus. Has anyone put these tyres on? (can't tell from previous posts), any good? Click to see full size
Does anyone know shops in Wellington\Hutt that would service this scooter if required? Eg change brake pads, fix punctures etc, I really don't want to send it back to Auckland if anything simple happens again. Thanks.

Actually, maybe those extra tyres at the same as the ones that came on it, just look wider.

I was replacing the rear tube, I've got the tube in but can't get the tyre full back on, can get just over half then the rest just comes back off. So frustrating, not as easy as a bike tyre. There are 3 videos I can find about this, 2 miss out or skip this bit, and the other the guys puts the tyre in the microwave, smears the rim with Vaseline, and just uses his hands and weight to force it on on the ground - I've only got the tyre off on 1 side so not sure I want to take it fully off to try that, any ideas?

I found I had to take the tyre off completely to get the tube out.

To get it back on I used tyre levers and a lot of force. The tyre levers are the metal ones - I started off using expensive plastic ones but snapped one right at the start so switched to cheap $2 shop metal ones (the ones included in a bike puncture repair kits). Use 3 of them to get around 2/3 of the tyre on and then use A LOT of force to get the rest down (had the wheel flat on the ground and was kneeing on it)

My rim has a lot of scratches on it though from the levers - you may want to tape some insulation tape around the rim to reduce the scratches

Next time I might try heating up the wheel in the microwave

I'd look at bolting a spare wheel on the handlebars.

For years now bike tyres are available with carbon fibre puncture protection. 100% necessary for city riding.

Edit: I'm not an owner but hot soapy water before a microwave anyday..

@michaelmurfy - just checking re my last post - that m365 DownG is the right app to be using to try to install those bin files from your Drive directory?

I've tried again a number of times and every time get the same error message as per that screenshot above. I'm still currently running that 'downgrade' firmware until I see if I can sort this; if there's nothing wrong with those files (so they definitely still work for you?) I'll try to do it on my wife's phone.

Thanks!

@jonathan18 ahh may be the problem. I remember I had to manually install the APK for my app. Will take a look when I get home.
