I wonder if they would last in the AKL CBD as well given the stealthy increase of more than 20% per minute from 30 to 38 cents. That and the 15km speed limit.

There must be a good few people who get good use of them , so plumped to buy their own fold up one? They are not expensive

The usage here in Dunedin has plummeted over winter (I'm Jucing and hardly bother going out ATM).
But at least we have the students to keep things ticking along.

I too wonder if they will be back in the Hutt since they lost Wellington and it does seem unlikely that they will disband their ops team and then re-hire again come spring.

Not surprised they have paused in the Hutt valley as too cold and damp. Who want to use them in the winter, when you can just catch a warm bus instead. But I would't be surprised if they come back.

Definitely a lack of users at the moment. What started with a hiss and a roar has gone to a dribble in usage.
I also suspect they won’t come back.

The price increase may also put people off using them . We were already paying a lot more before the price increase. Not sure why we pay so much more in NZ compared to the US? They were initially a bit of a fad as well. IMO some for of e-bike rental system is better, and I think they do do ebike rentals  as well.

I havent used one in ages. Walked past many and may have used them if it was a more straightfoward process than dealing with that laggy POS app. Needs to be jump on jump off IMO. The app is really a pain point to have it open and get to the QR screen.

Haven't used one since I got pinged by the price rise and didn't realise. Its only 8 cents a minute extra but considering they round time up and anytime I try to lock with 5-10 seconds before the minute it still charges for the next minute it all adds up for is really just a convenience I can do without. I work in CBD Chch and the usage has definitely plummeted here too, I see the same ones parked up at 0600 and 1800 each day.

I love the Lime concept.

I use Onzo around Wellington a bit, and though i'd rather have the assistance of a battery+motor than a poorly geared bicycle, the price difference is appalling.

Onzo charge in 5 minute blocks, like $0.25/block.  So to quickly scoot from the office to the waterfront is in the order of $0.50.  Easily worthwhile.

To do the same on a Lime costs a few bucks.  Which adds up quickly enough.  I used them to travel a few blocks to/from a meeting in Dunedin when I was there a few weeks ago and the cost surprised me.

Even so, they are still losing money, and the model is unsustainable. The lifespan of a Lime scooter is about a month on average, so ultimately I think the whole concept needs to be reconsidered, and it sounds like they are doing that.

Yeah that's the issue with Lime. They're great if you're going a reasonable distance where a few bucks makes sense, but to go a few blocks it adds up quickly when its $1 + 38c per minute. The other day I had to do a few trips around the CBD (was time poor so Lime was best option) and my cost at the end of the day was $12+, half of which was unlocks. Looking forward to seeing the new entrants in Chch! Hopefully gives Lime a bump in the right direction.

"Time poor so Lime was best option" - you are paying for the convenience. The alternatives are probably taxis, Uber or your own car. Compare costs and draw conclusions.

How do Onzo manage it then? Even conservatively the scenario given here would've been about half the price.

I would say Onzo costs are way lower than Lime.
