Now that there are a few Model 3’s on the streets, I am reminded that they are not a good-looking car (like many cars, btw). Test drove on in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. The build quality is better than my Tesla, when I had one, but still pretty average.
Can you give an example of the last car you thought was good looking (similar in price or below) and also an example of modern car (2019) that you think is good looking? Need some context before I judge your taste. 🤪
what’s price got to do with it? In the EV world, the Jag iPace is much better looking (I have no idea how much it costs), the Taycan is good looking, especially from behind (albeit I don’t think the 4-door Porsche’s make the transition all that well). The Taycan is guaranteed to be much better build quality - I have put a deposit on one without having even seen one, and I’m looking at a 15-month wait. I am a Porsche guy though.
outside of EV’s, well the Juke is much worse looking, the Amarok is better looking (and it’s a Ute!). How about the Mazda MX5 as a good looking car (I’m not convinced about the 2019 model).
Aston Martin’s are the best looking cars in manufacture.
The Tesla Roadster is good looking, the S is better looking than the 3 and is satisfactory, the Y is worse looking, X is about the same as the 3. I don’t know a single person who thinks the 3 is a good looking car.

When you have Taycan money I guess it doesn't. Most of us are "splurging" on a Model 3 SR+ at $75kish so for that money its a great car that looks good. The others you've mentioned are $75-200k more which for that kind of money I'd expect some different styling.

well, I don’t agree.
Does a Mini look good? What about an MX-5? Hi-Lux? My thesis is Tesla doesn’t (obviously) have a heritage of aesthetic design, and an ethos of functionality and technical innovation, rather than aesthetic. When your focus is on function and the challenge of getting the cars built, and a customer network, then perhaps a good-enough design is ... good enough.
Lots of people won’t care whether a car looks good, or simply doesn’t look ugly, and that’s fine; but none of that turns a not good looking car into a good looking car.
kudos to Tesla for getting to where they are; and they can make a decent looking vehicle, looking at the Roadster, and even the S. But the 3 is not a good looking car, and price is not relevant - I believe they could have done better for no real increase in price. After all, we are only talking about panels.
there are plenty of very expensive bad-looking cars as well ... Rolls Royce Cullinan for example.

Setting price aside, if you compare model 3 to a similar size small sedan like Mazda 2 or 3, it's a great looking car in my view.
More importantly it drives and feels excellent in control and that's more important for some people (like me) than the generic looks of that class.

You're talking about something that is very subjective. A Model 3 might be ugly to you but plenty of people see it as a good looking car. The same is true for the Nissan Juke - some people are really taken with how it looks.

It's better looking than the older Leaf thats for sure, but it's fairly boring design. They want to sell lots, so have made it an unoffencive as possible, which makes sense.

Linuxluver: Does anyone know how to track the arrival of Tesla cars from the US? :-)
If you have the VIN number assigned you can use this site

Once I found my final hidden VIN number on my Tesla account page I was able to find my car and where they had it.

Saw three Model 3s in a ten minute drive on the North Shore (coincidentally red, white and blue but not in that order). Can’t understand how anyone wouldn’t think they are a nice looking car (IMO).

The front's not bad, but the rear is pretty Meh, (and wide to boot)
This is a new review of the model 3 released today, one year later, and is the type of review anyone considering one should watch

IMO they are alright looking, but very conventional looking, and that is probably the point. There are certainly worse looking cars. EVs excluding hybrids , have traditionally have looked like EVs , ugly, which has turned people off them.
