Guilliman: Nice, sounds exciting!
I think I'd be having 'night before xmas as a kid' flashbacks if I was waiting for one.

It's very much like that. I've received confirmation of the change to my order.

Now just waiting for the invoice to pay. Probably tomorrow after the US has had a working day.

Waiting for hours was very much like waiting for the family to all be awake so we could see what Santa bought on Christmas morning

The waiting was agonizing but the reward was really worth it

Merry Christmas..

Awesome! The first time I drove a Model 3 was driving my one out of the showroom. What a day! Soak it all up.

Same here. I'd never driven or ridden in a Model 3 before - like you - driving it out of the showroom yesterday. :-)

They gave it to me on 88%. By the time we left Auckland, after a late lunch at the cafe in Cornwal Park with our daughter, it was on 83%. We then drove to Tauranga and had dinner. At that point, the car still had 221km left and we only had 127km to go to get home. No need to charger..... But I gave it a zap at Bayfair as we had a quick bite at McDs in the mall there anyway.

Awesome car. Wow. I tried the Autopilot. It works pretty well, but on a winding road you do need to set the cruise control to reasonable speed for the road. Usually 100kph isn't it. :-)

I did a launch in Sport mode this afternoon. My other adult daughter screaming nearly deafened me. I won't be doing too many of those. Chill mode seems to be the go for this transitioning LEAF driver. :-)

Congratulations! It is an absolutely outstanding car, and I believe anyone who says otherwise has not yet driven one. Yesterday mine got the latest update which gave it 5% more range and horsepower. It added Smart Summon so my car will now find me in a parking lot on its own (a bit buggy). Tell me another car where you wake up in the morning and its just got quicker while you were asleep!

Way to go Linuxluver, and pleased for you that all's going well. Now that Teslas are here, the Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro EVs don't look quite so attractive unless you like their smaller size.

I saw a Kia Niro the other day for the first time, I know looks are subjective but man it is definitely not a good looking car. Why on earth they wedged a chunk of plastic into the grill and called it a day we will never know. The ICE Niro is nice enough. The Kona is not quite as terrible looking. The only reason I would suggest these 2 options to people is the SUV/Hatch aspect. If thats not a requirement then the 3 is the only logical option in every single way.

I saw some hydrogen powered car on a stand at the airport today but did not have time to stop. Where do you fill such a thing?

I think you have to go to BOC to have it filled. There is no infrastructure for them here.

So the big sign next to it saying "New Zealand's first hydrogen powered car" or words to that effect was somewhat optimistic!

I looked it up - it's a Hyundai Nexo. Apparently, if we CAN get infrastructure, it will take 5 minutes to fill and will travel over 650km on that. Sounds more useful for a lot of drivers than electricity.

The hydrogen cars in Norway have been standing still for months now after a hydrogen filling station went up in smoke.

Its the old system trying to keep with their old business model. Batteries are already at a stage now where range and charge time is getting close to that of ICE cars.

The fastest (useable) charging stations for Teslas are now are at 250 kW, which gives you 600 KM range in 22 minutes.

Don't expect it to stop there. Tesla has already set up 350 kW charging stations which would mean that you would use about 30% less time compared to the 250 kW charging. So you would be able to add 600 KM in around 15 minutes.

Hydrogen has been heavily pushed by the Nat Gas lobby on places like California,

At present (and likely foreseeable future) producing Hydrogen from Electricity to turn back into electricity is only realistic when you have huge electrical surpluses, ( its reaaally  inefficient)

There was a chunk of the general EV thread that went through this boondoggle a few months ago....

That is about the realistic level I think you need to be at to replace petrol. Of course, the other problem is the cost of the vehicles. It will presumably be some while before Tesla and similar vehicles hit the $10,000 that many people would pay for a car these days.
