Just paid for the car’s insurance and decided to add a bit more to cover those accessories.

Did you just decide an early date for the insurance to start? When I looked I had to set a date, and since I don't have it I have kept getting insurance on the todo list. Do have a quote though, so ready when I know when.

Decided to take it from the date we hope to pick up, which is in the middle of the window provided by Tesla. I imagine it's easy enough to shift it a couple of weeks later (the next point we can pick it up) if that doesn't work out, but just wanted this locked in as it's my nightmare situation of having an accident in an uninsured car!

Which insurer are you going with?

What store did you order your mats from on ali express? There are a lot to choose from. And price varies widely as well.

It’s been many weeks since I ordered mine, so I’m not sure if there’s a better range of (and better prices for) RHD MY mats - when I bought, there weren’t many to choose from.

I’m happy with the ones I got - they seem decent quality, but it’s difficult to know about actual fit until the car arrives. I got the full MY set from this retailer (and back-of-rear-seat mats from another). Don’t be put off by the photo, which shows LHD for the RHD option - they are indeed RHD!

Going with AA Insurance, got a comprehensive insurance there for $1080 a year.

What was interesting is that they list the price as "$76,200", which wouldn't cover a new car. Although Tesla lists it as the price in the configurator, that actual drive away price is $78,243 - as we both know. So had to adjust the value of the car when setting up the quote.

I’ve also gone with AA Insurance; yep, I noticed the lower initial price and also amended it (I needed an additional $1500 for blue, plus more for the accessories!) - it’ll be interesting to see how long Tesla keeps the Y at this price, so if it does go up will we need to amend the amount accordingly?

$1080’s pretty good, especially compared to what others are being quoted - what’s your excess? Mine (with $1k excess; nil excess for non-roof glass; rental car if needed) came in at $1298.

Today was supposed to be just a test drive of an EV6 but ended with a $400 deposit for the standard everything edition Model Y ;-)

Did anyone get any clarity on rear parcel shelf? Seems like some Shanghai made exports have one, and AU - but I didn't see it in the showroom car?

That sounds like an unfortunate accident! What tipped the decision towards a Y as opposed to EV6?

As for the parcel shelf, from what I’ve read it’s unlikely the initial batch to NZ will come with them, but it is possible following shipments will. The Y production line shut down for around 10 days earlier in the month, and many are guessing this is when the parcel shelf (along with other changes) may be made. The Tesla designed shelf is pretty crap - fairly solid and inflexible, whereas I’d rather have a retractable model, but will wait before ordering to be sure when mine arrives next month, just on the off chance if it does.

Hmm I'm not so sure about the parcel shelf. The Shanghai deliveries in the UK that have been happening for the last few weeks have the shelf. Theirs likely were built ahead of ours too.

At some level I hope you’re right, because at least that means there’ll be one less thing I feel the need to buy…

Today’s purchase has been gas struts for the frunk, but this is a practical purchase (he says trying to justify it), as I want to be able to make good use of the frunk and feel the need to manually lift it is one of the reasons why many claim they don’t use it much.

The main reason I don't use my frunk is because it's a bit of a hassle having to grab for the phone (or even fob if you get that). With the boot or back seat I just have to press a button/handle on the car.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I want to sort out Google Assistant controls as I’d really like to be able to open it via voice command (though, knowing GA, it’ll still claim ‘but first you need to unlock your phone’!).

It’s also one of the reasons I’m drawn to the Enhance command module (https://enhauto.com/list/all?), at some level more so than the buttons, given that allows opening the frunk via a long pull of the door handle (as shown at 14:02 on this video: https://youtu.be/C8wyrzWfTWc). But it’s not cheap, especially if one wants to use the ‘dashboard’ as that would also need a wireless charging bracket for the phone.

My experience at the Kia dealership didn't get off to a great start - windswept dank space, salesperson was busy so had to wait (I had booked an appointment) was handed to another salesperson who had zero interest in me - he sighed and sent me the test drive agreement to sign and then just gave me the keys and said "off you go". No sales pitch, no explanations, nothing - I suppose their stock is going to sell itself. Car was fine, still seemed to be over indexing in the established vehicle norms which might make sense for their target market. Fake engine block as frunk box was a laugh. Interior space was ok, kids felt they couldn't see out of the back as glass was too high. Made the wife feel a bit car sick when she was in the back whilst I tested sport mode.

Even if I had fallen in love with it, the "April" delivery date was a non starter. I had assumed it was going to be the one thing in their favour.

Model Y test drive drives appear to be booked out for months so just figured I'd at least go and look at interior space etc (have driven Model 3). Again a night and day experience - great space, super friendly and chill staff (CJ), offered to give us a rundown and did a great job. Interior is great - much better seats than Ev6 and better visibility for kids. Storage of course is insane!

Had nearly pulled the trigger on a model 3 over Xmas but had delayed hoping the Y would arrive. With the current price + rebate + anz 1% loan it feels like a good moment to do this.

Can only hope the rebate doesn't get pulled before Nov/Dec although one would have they'd announce in advance if they run out of money and offer a grace period ;-)

Plenty of Ford Rangers, Range Rovers, etc being sold to pay for your rebate for a few years to come😉

Your test drive experience with Kia sounds similar to mine with Hyundai when I took the Ioniq 5 for a drive - I put the sales person’s total disinterest down to the sales model Hyundai are using for their EVs (also available online; nil haggling), which may also be similar for Kia? (I had a much better experience with Kia, though this was just a look-over as that was enough to confirm the storage space as too small - the sales person was happy to chat and was helpful.)

Good to hear you were happy with the practicality of the Y; I still haven’t seen one in the flesh, and purchased based on a test drive of a 3. (We had been going to visit Wgtn yesterday at the end of our holiday, and had planned on checking out the Y, but TBH I kinda like the idea of it being a full surprise when we turn up to pick ours up.)

I wouldn’t worry about the rebate side of things - AFAIU it’s no longer a fine ‘pot’ of money, but rather is funded through the ute tax (term=joke).
