ANCAP is the only safety rating worth looking at.

I see the old misconception of "car x can't possibly have a one star rating because it has lots of airbags" popping up here. The structural design of the vehicle is just as important as the passive safety features, so you need to trust ANCAP's assessment.

This is about safety ratings in Australia, but very relevant to this discussion.

This is one of his informative videos where he is not just riffing on the sound of his own voice.

Picked up a Hyundai i20 2012 (auto) done 75,000 k's for my son for $6500 2 weeks ago.  He has loved it. Comes with bluetooth for the phone, ABS, airbags, traction control. runs and rides really well. very pleased.

Great video!

Always hear about ANCAP ratings so assume they are legit. Turns out they are not legit at all and pretty much a waste of time. The fact a 3 star crash worthy car can be upgraded to 5 stars with some crash avoidance features is scary. Thanks for posting that. I guess the ANCAP scam works because people don't know how misleading it is.

With modern Ancap it is more the other way around. A car that preforms in a crash to a 5 star level gets downgraded to 3 stars if it lacks automated emergency breaking. There is no way to get a 5 star rating without collision avoidance tech these days... Essentially it makes such tech compulsory for all automakers who aren't willing to carry a concerning low safety rating on their products.
