Wife has the same Issue on a Nokia 5.1 as I've got on my Nokia 7.2. We've both had recent Android 10 updates which appears to be a common part of the complaints on other forums.

Which Android version are you running? I have been updating father-in-law's Nokia 7.2 (Android updates aren't cumulative so it is month by month) and it's currently on 2020-05. I will continue updating during holidays and test.

My N7Plus has Android security patch level 1 December 2020 FTR.

No signature to see here, move along...

Some patches update the OS too - which is likely why some people see other stuff falling over soon after

Unfortunately they only link to the Android security changes, not what other system changes messed with.

For the 7.2 at least:

390 = Nov 20 is a Maint release + Security

340 = June 20 (when a lot of people saw issues across models) Maint + security

270 = Apr 20 Maint + SP

And yet more on the forums for the Nov update introducing. Doesn't bode well.

Nill issues with my Huawei P30 pro. I use Google maps for navigation extensively on my Can Am Spyder

I wonder what GPS chipset it is using. I just found an article about GPS accuracy problems on some smartwatches - all of those use Sony GPS. The problem seems to be that the almanac (a file that is periodically downloaded with information about satellite position so that the GPS can have a quick start - without the file a fix could take anything from seconds to minutes) is corrupt.

Usually a GPS would download a new version from the company's servers or update data automatically from satellites. That's why when people complain about GPS not giving exact location we suggest leaving a maps app open with the phone outdoors, for a few minutes.

So I will suggest this - perhaps open maps and leave the phone with a clear view of the sky for around 10 - 15 minutes to see if things change? (Also, make sure to change the display sleep settings during this time)

Yeah that's similar to what I had read and was referring to previously. As if an updated base file was pushed as part of the maintenance updates to 10

I've used one of the GPS status apps to reset what I think is those settings recently. Reset google services and I think toggled Wifi/4G location assistance off. (some people on Pixel and Samsungs find flightmode with maps or a GPS app will seemingly work, disabling 4G location as a result? but turning it back on makes it go screwy)

But, being off work and not going far other than on the foot or peddly not had much real-world travel use to see if it made an improvement on the initial lock and subsequent slow routing calculations I see in maps.

It wouldn't come from updates as those almanac contain at most a week of data.

Pixel, oneplus, samsung, huawei, nokia.
Throw them in a search box with 'android 10 update gps' and it's top results.

All have familiar themed complaints and strings of fix suggestions around them of slow or inaccurate location locks since initial 10 updates in Q1 (or upgrade to) and the need to reset related local files using tools (or in extreme cases roll back to 9)
And toggling the accuracy settings that add to them.

I have this same problem on my Nokia 7.2 and even with today's latest security patch installed. My only solution is to set my sim cards to prefer 3g rather than 4g. When I have the 3g preference set my gps works with Google Maps while moving. But, I miss some phone calls ☹️. I use maps more than I get inbound phone calls and so I live with the calling issue.

When I set my advanced sim card preferences back to the default of prefering 4g then I get static location within Google Maps (probably uses WiFi) but no location updates once I start moving. Also speed shows up as --.

This has been an ongoing issue since October/November 2020.

I've found that disabling Google Location Accuracy my Google Maps navigation works again, but other apps try to force it back on.
