I have a Tesla Compressor and Goo pack in the car, and then after I had to actually used it, purchased an Xiaomi Portable Compressor that runs off a built in battery - highly recommended

These don’t seem to be available as an accessory from the official store any more. I’m interested though, when you used the compressor, did you use the goo as well? I have heard varying opinions on the goo’s usefulness in tires that have the acoustic foam in them, and it’s affect on the TPMS.

I have the Xiaomi compressor, and a foot pump as backup. I wasn’t sure how the LiIon accessory battery would cope with a compressor you run off the 12V system.

Interested to hear this too. I have the compressor + goo. If it works at all, I would only use it to limp to a tyre repair shop.

I carry a compressor, spade, snatch strap, jump start kit and basic tool kit.

I take my SUV in the desert so these are all necessary. Driving on sand dunes without deflating is a great way to get bogged.

Whereabouts, if you don't mind saying?

I assume the punishment for vandalising (or interfering with) someone’s car in your part of the world might be slightly different to here though? Inflator for optimising off-road experience, yes. Inflator to recover from someone being a pious dick, not so much.

It's different and not really comparable. 90% of the country is on work visas so people are here because they want to be here.

Thankfully no need to use the goo; just needed some air in the tires.

Would only use the goo if topping up the car with air every (XX) km wasn't suitable

I bought one of these because it looked like it could be really useful.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003384483639.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.6b6118021O6Ooz

My goal was to check tyre pressure and inflate them without having to make a trip to the garage, not to protect against hooligans :-)

I actually tried to buy a version that could charge devices but those units could not be shipped to NZ. That is strange since this one also has a battery in it.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/rooms/32019730  Mention GZ to get a 10% discount

@lchiu7 - what's the verdict on the inflator? How quickly does it inflate a car tyre, and what do you reckon the real-world battery life is?

This thread has reminded me I've had my head in the sand for the many years we've owned a Leaf; still have no spare tyre or inflator/goo in that car, and will hit the same problem when I finally get to buy a Tesla Model Y. Something like this product sounds great, if it works well.

I haven't actually tested it out yet :-) It was one of those impulse purchases but after the unit arrived many weeks later, the urge to use it had lapsed. That reminds me to check this weekend since I need to check the tyre pressures in my cars anyway. Will report back though I have no idea how to check how long it takes to inflate a car tyre without deflating one first!

bought one of these a couple of months ago: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B096ZRWGPC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Initial reason was to top up the various vehicle tyres without a service station visit.

Does the job.  Supposedly inflates full from flat within 15minutes.  From what I've seen that seems about right.

Rather than leave it in the garage, I now have it in the boot full time on the off chance these clowns strike.

No, but as I own an SUV, I'm wondering if I should.

Hilarious those guys have only succeeded in creating urgent demand for previously unnecessary consumer items, and even, air miles.

Not really. Look at what you and others are doing in this thread. You're thinking about them, you're thinking about their message. Their desire was to create awareness. Did they win?

No. Tesla created the need in my case by not including a spare wheel.

In my case I don't know what the cause is.  The headline made me aware of the need to keep my compressor and tools in my car.

Incidentally for people using a compressor/inflator with an integral pressure gauge:  For accuracy, there should be a closed valve of some kind between the compressor and the gauge.  Otherwise, the compressor may skew the pressure up or down.

On a related question - has anyone experience with/views on this type of 12v jack/inflator?

https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/certa-3-1-tyre-repair-tool-kit-electric-jack-wrench/

While I have no need for the wrench (which only adds to the weight - 9kg for the set), I will need both a tyre inflator and jack, given my new car will have neither.

Also, how worried should I be about the car’s ability to supply the necessary power (or what this will do to the battery)? I see this unit can connect directly to the battery or 12v accessory fitting, with some figures I’ve read for my car saying the latter can provide a 12A continuous draw with a 16A peak (the specs for the Kogan say 13A max). I think, however, that relates to the previously used lead acid 12v, whereas I understand Tesla has moved to using a lithium 12v - is that a reason to tread more carefully and avoid 12v-powered items like compressors and jacks? (So therefore stick with a battery-powered or human-powered (ie bike pump!) inflator or and a conventional jack?)

I wonder if this crazy behaviour all stemmed from the UK!
