just wondering on that note ... is it polishing your car with expensive wax a good way of protecting paint?

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

My 15 y/o car has no rust of any merit other than in a few stonechips, most of which I've dealt with.

It's NZ assembled though, (just prior to the factory's closure in '98) so it probably had fairly decent rustproofing to cope with the fact it'd be never be more than about 100km from a fairly sizeable body of saltwater.

American cars would be unlikely to have the same consideration, it may depend where it was actually assembled though.

The NZ-built '86 Mirage I used to own is still tootling around the streets and that only had a couple of smallish bits of surface rust.

In true bogan style I wear my black jumper, hop in my v8, put my arm out the window and wait for the social climate to accept me as I am.

Hamilton is probably a nice place to have a mother in law though.
Although it just occured to me that Wellington is only windy on account of how much Palmerston North sucks. :)
