Jaxson:
mrphil: all my cheap cables stopped working with all the new software

I feel that.  Just binned my cheap china cable because it didn't charge and then when I tried to get some photos off at the weekend it didn't transfer as a data cable either.

Great to read that now! I ordered a bunch of cheap lightning cables off eBay last week. If they're as good as these ones, clearly I'll have some expensive pieces of "string" at least. Good reasons why they're cheap, it's just that I can't bring myself to pay the inflated price for genuine cables.

That Warewhare one is, I guess, a good deal, given the ability to return it if it fails.

No worries, you don't have to pay for genuine cables.  It just all rather depends on whether you want the cable to actually do anything/actually work is all ;-)

A guy at work has found his cheap one is still going.  It warns him, but at least it actually charges.  Mine gave up charging, even when the phone was completely flat.
Apple had some instances of 3rd party charges bursting into flames, but I expect forcing an official cable doesn't actually mean people can't still plug it into a dodgy charger.

I've got an official cable at work, but I had wanted a cheap one for home to charge it over the weekend was all.

I had heard that the new lightening cables that apple produced have a chip in them, unlike the old cables. So that could be part of the problem with the cheap ones not haveing the same type of chip in them.

Yes, that is the exact problem.

mrphil: wow thats cheap

still waiting for a reply from them....

Did you ge tit resolved? Make sure you get a proper apple cable too, as some of the no name cables ones will only charge, and not transfer data.

still no reply from them at lunch time so i rang the 0800 number again, it rang and rang and rang until it was transferred to noel leeming.

spoke to the woman at noel leeming and she transferred my call to bond and bond, within a minute someone picked up and they said they will send me out a cable and that was the end of the call, only on the phone with her for about 30sec.

i hope she send the correct cable cause all my cheap cables stopped working with all the new software

update;

i got a confirmation email from bond and bond yesterday saying they have sent out the usb cable.

cable arrived today and its a original apple lightning cable, still has the price tag of $29 (looks like a noel leeming  price tag)

overall i'm very happy with my purchase

If anyone has some good hosting contacts and mad skills I'd be keen to see all these deals revealed in 1 easy place for us in NZ much the same as they do in australia

http://ozbargain.com.au

Its crowd sourced links/deals etc such as these shared and once proven valuable/popular and commended on they appear to the main tree :) Even has an auto expire warn if one is known at the time the deal is entered.

Anyone going in to the PB Tech Black Friday sale that could pick me up something?

I hate missing out on these "in store only" sales when I'm 350km away................

I know the feeling. It's a pity these sales aren't click and collect - at least that way those of us living too far away could still purchase items and have a friend/family member pick them up. I'm reluctant to ask someone to go on the off-chance they'll be able to purchase what I'm after (an iPad - but being a 64GB 4G model, it's probable they have few if any in stock). I'd also be interested to know what an iPad 'at cost' actually means in $$ terms.

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

Hosting costs less that $1 per day, so that shouldn't be a hindrance. Coding on the other hand is more difficult, but some off the shelf opensource software is possibly ok to set something up with. Oit is more about the time it takes someone to do it, and whether they can make at least something from it.

I believe its all the stores on Friday. The email says the stores close at 4PM and reopen at 5PM.

They even revealed some prices as Part 1 :)

Remember it’s this Friday (22nd Nov) from 5 to 9PM.  All stores will close at 4PM while we madly run around dropping prices like there’s no tomorrow!

I can provide the hosting required if anyone is interested in developing this excellent idea.
