About as miserly as I expected. Only place that I've known to do decent discounts off iPads (excluding such sales as PB Tech's sale yesterday - they didn't have any of the larger capacity models in stock) is Warehouse Stationery - I'm sure I' saw tey had 10% off a few months back (but also are lacking the larger models).

The weird timing of that Apple sale (2am start) made me wonder if it's connected to the Aus site, and clearly it is with their sale starting at midnight. Also saw the iPad prices there, which make for damn interesting reading. Price of 64GB 4G iPad Air: NZ $1249; AU $949. With the Aus currency having fallen so much over the past year against the NZ$, this $949 AU converts across at not much over NZ $1050. Buying an iPad in Aus may be the easiest method to get a good "discount".

It's black Friday in the US (day after thanks giving). I assume they update the NZ store at the same time as aussie.

Apple are not very good at changing their pricing to reflect the changing exchange rate. So they are currently making better margins off NZers due to NZ dollar being so high. I don't think they have changed since the NZ dollar was 60 cents. Now it is over 80 cents.

If you buy in australia and fly back to NZ you should be able to get the tax back at the airport, giving you an additional 12.5 or 15% (I forget the VAT rate there)

If purchased from an authorised Apple reseller in Aus, is the warranty valid in New Zealand (ie, an international warranty)? Given the lack of CGA coverage, this would be an important factor to consider.

If so, perhaps time to find a relation heading over the ditch soon!

Fair cop.

No warranty for iPad Air but assume it'll be the same or similar for generation 4, which contains the following statement:

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

That's deliberately worded so loosely so as to provide an out for Apple in such a situation. Without a firmer idea one way or another this would remain a risk.

That obviously gives them an out. My experience with a norwegian bought iPhone was that they did follow the warranty here and did an exchange when it faulted here in New Zealand.

So they may restrict it, but my experience (just recently) was that they didn't.

May be different if you buy from a retailer and not from Apple. (I always buy the phones outright, and its been easiest to buy directly from Apple).

I bought a iPad Air (couple of them) in Australia Apple store and I had to check with warranty here and its valid here if you buy it in Aus.
Basically if you buy AUS/NZ - its covered between countries.

When you buy there and fly you get 10% off tax in TRS scheme at the airport, please remember you have to show them the receipt and the actual ipad.

Just to add my story with the iPad air 2 weeks back good guys had 12% off on all iPads including iPad air. I went to warehouse stationery who beat it by another 5% and I got a 32GB iPad air for more or less the same price as a 16GB model. Awesome deal I would say. Happy to send a copy of receipt if someone wants to take it to WHS for price match

Idk whether this has been mentioned but Lenovo have some ridiculous deals. I just got a $3500 configuration of the T440s for $2500. That was pretty unexpected...

Edit:

The code for all Lenovo's deals is "TUESDAY" (case sensitive), if anyone else is itnerested :)
