What features do you want? Mechless? Bluetooth? USB ?

No sorry, but have used Abtec a few times in the past without complaint.

DIN/Double DIN?

Few good deals around, but depends on your budget and what features you need.

Abtec replaced the extant head\video unit in my car on behave of the car dealer when I bought it.  The did a terrible job leaving cut cable ties and the like rattling around in the dash.  It took me taping things up and then an auto electrician having a go to stop the rattling.  And then - from the sound of it - another cut cable tie worked itself loose during my last long journey.

-100 from me on Abtec

To clarify, I have not used them as an installer, only used them to purchase head units.

Well they did. Can't see it on their site now - might have sold out.

stick to well known brand names.

the no-name chinese brands tempt with many features and low prices but invariably sound like doo-doo

Yep. Also, if the one you're pulling out is a well known brand, buy one the same and you can just clip it in.

Alternatively if you're pulling out a factory radio, the cabling conversion kits make it easy. You can get them at Repco and Super Cheap.

I have the Pioneer BT Mechless - love it and could not recommend highly enough. Got it for way less than $200 about a year ago (in a sale at JB).
Have not missed the CD player one bit.

I did get an Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel remote adaptor (Amazon) and that IMO was a great investment (worked first pop between the Pioneer and My Nissan OEM steering wheel buttons)3 - harldy ever actually touch the headunit now.

Go for a parallel import one IME, they come supplied with a loom that ends on ISO plugs, whereas the primary importer ones from sony and pioneer sold here have a stupid useless loom that ends in a bunch of wires that you then have to buy 2 looms at repco at their insane prices.

Also the low end PI headdecks usually have RDS, whereas when I last looked it was disabled on the cheap local models so that they could pretend it was a premium feature.

Cheers, no steering wheel buttons on the Civic unfortunately, its pretty basic. Will have a look around and see this weekend. It has a Gathers minidisk player in it. Doubt it is factory so I'm dreading opening it up to see the state of the wiring in the console. Last time I did a friends Primera import we opened it up and the wiring was twisted and sticky taped. Hopefully it still has the factory plugs but will know more once I get into it. Might just end up going to PI if no decent specials are around. Had a couple from there so far and they have been fine.
