timbosan:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html

PB Tech do the 7260 so I might get one on the weekend - http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NETINT2452281&qr=pspy&ref=pricespy

As for the poor signal, there is not too much that can be done, as the aerial wires are in the body (as previously noted) and not in the screen.

Just a note on this. I haven't opened my unit (that timbosan kindly sold to me at cost), however, looking at the packing slip it appears that the wireless card may be a M.2 form factor rather than a HMC form factor so the above card would not fit. Anyone else opened theirs and looked?

Would be interested to know too. The default wireless card isn't great, unless you are really close to the router.

This card here

www.os-store.com/intel-dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-7260ngw-ngff-pcie-wlan-wifi-card-module-802-11-ac-a-b-g-n-867mbps-bluetooth-bt-kttyn-for-dell-version.html

Is probably the correct card to use - no guarantees though (either the compatibility or the seller).

Also not sure if there is a white list in the bios of wi-fi cards that can be used (a really annoying habit of some laptop manufacturers).

Have not looked myself(still not that keen on how reflective the screen is) but does this video give you an idea?

Have not had any wifi issues myself, however I'm not transferring significant amounts of data over it(ie streaming media from another computer)

That is a different type of screen by the looks of it, as the bezel is a lot wider on that, and their is no edge for the touch screen. A normal screen will also likely be plastic, while I beleive the screen on these touch screen laptops are using glass, probably gorilla glass, so you get a different type of reflection off that. I haven't had any problem with reflection. The otherthing is that as it is IPS, the screen appears a lot brighter and sharper, with better viewing angles and better colour reproduction.

Looks like a M.2 form factor from the video.

Note - you can also go to the "NZ version" of the website I listed if you want.

The 5547 series has both the non TS 1388x788 panel and the higher end TS display this deal had. Hence the different panel in the video :)

The card in mine:

Also the card mentioned you could get from ascent/impc for ~41-43 shipped nationwide

Anyone try their luck with the usb wireless dongles etc? I'm thinking if it's not an easy fix to get reasonable strength might as well flick it off to someone who does not mind that so much(ie that has an AP in the same room or will just use it wired).

So my order was cancelled by their idiot call center staff who couldn't understand english, and their wallys on social media kept telling me the order was in transit despite their other guys doing a refund back to my card which I only noticed after they called me to confirm I had received the refund.

Cant believe how useless that operation is.

That is really cr@p service. You should ask them to escalate it to management. They should really offer you a discount or throw in something with the order to make up for the inconvenience. It is a pretty good laptop apart from the not so good wifi range.

Anyone having issues with the wireless anymore? My one's wireless card does not seem to want to work.. There is no wifi card showing in the hardware config area. I need to scan for hardware changes and then it finds it. The wifi card did not even show me any of the networks in the house i was in.

Might be looking to change the wifi card - has anyone here done this yet?

I have one of these coming. $41NZD. No issues with the current one, but, more speed is good.
The ones at ascent etc were all mini pcie, not the correct M2 / NGFF ones for our laptops.

No problem with no detection. Has that always been the case? Maybe try a full rest back to factory settings? Or reinstall the drivers? You may have totally disabled wifi by turning on airplane mode from the keyboard. If you do this you have to turn off airplane mode from the keyboard , you can't do it via windows.

Hmm.. its connected to the network right now. na it wasnt the airplane mode. I had checked that. It actually did not even show me a wireless card in the computer manager. I had to do a rescan hardware changes and then it detected it. It was not like that the first time.
