mrtoken:
IronH: Yip. It is unlocked so will work on any network, but it has spark branding, meaning it shows the spark logo during boot up and has a pre installed telecom and yahoo app. Im using it with 2degrees.

Argh which means spark needs to OK firmware releases for it, they have not been the best in getting the new firmware OK'd in any good time frame in the past so might just skip it as I want android lollipop.

Anyone know if it's easy to flash an unbranded stock rom on Sony Xperia phones?

True, had that very issue with a Telecom branded HTC One X I had a couple years back - waited around 6 months longer than other telcos for updates. I completely forgot about that.

Thats why I get so annoyed that even when paying full price from a shop I have to choose one of the telco versions and not a generic one like other countries get. Really lame of samsung to do that. In the time I own the phone i will generally change telco at least once.

Even if it is generic like the Nexus 5  you are sometimes still at the mercy of the carrier SIM installed.  Seem to remember seeing a discussion here some time back about 2Degrees phones not getting lollipop  but as soon as the put another SIM in it updated..

That is now correct as well, if you had a nexus 5 with a 2 degrees sim in it then they would block the updates till they tested it (and ended up having a different version of the update).
Anyone else that had a nexus 5 on voda or spark got updates from google within a couple of weeks.

Google has now updated their info on the nexus page about "carrier needs to approve updates"

I knew I would regret not buying this phone, I hope it drops in price or goes on sale again soon. I've been watching review videos and all reviewers seem to love it.

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

Thanks to Sony's 6month release cycle the Z4 Compact is due to be announced 1st half of this year.
Doubt we will see it at anywhere near the JBHifi special price though. I don't know how JBHifi did it, but their Z3 Compact special was exceptionally good value, NZ new with 2yr local warranty. I doubt it'll be that low again within the next several months, considering the older Z1 compact is $480 incl delivery from the cheapest parallel importer on pricespy. Am super please I grabbed one. Loving this phone way more than my Galaxy S4 & S5. Battery life is phenomenal. Camera is fantastic. build material is nice. If you wanted one and didn't grab one you should definitely be kicking yourself :p

OK, now I am confused. I couldn't find the model number on the JB website. The only way of knowing is if someone who purchased from JB confirms if it is a D5803 or D5833...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
