Hi

Hope it is okay to ask this in this forum please :)

My son is looking to buy a GO Pro Action camera and has found this.

http://goo.gl/yZgMEq

Has anyone used aliexpress.com or can you recommend other sites to buy the same product as they are about 1/2 the price outside of NZ ?

thanks

Quite a few people use AliExpress around here as well as DelaExtreme.

You realise that is not a GoPro though, right?

aliexpress is fine, you need to buy from a seller with a good rating.

but I'd go for new SJ5000 PLUS :) however you won't get GoPro's video quality with cheap alternatives :(

I can't comment on the product, but I've used Aliexpress successfully a number of times.  Has very good buyer protection, the sellers would rather lose money on a sale and have good feedback in my experience.

The quality of the products varies - on Aliexpress I would check the feedback carefully, some give quite detailed reviews.  Generally, if you buy a product which lots of other people have ordered it will be decent.

I've used aliexpress many times and I have had only one instance where I have lost my money.  You need to keep an eye on the orders and if you get something like "returned by customs" be onto them instantly for a refund.  if you miss the 7-10 window you're out of luck getting any action on it.

I have used aliexpress in the past, but most of time its case of who you buy from.

plus their can be product quality issue at times, cheaper is sometimes OK , sometimes inferior quality. so its a gamble of sorts.

I checked the prize for GoPro Hero4 Black (top model I believe), and its about 688 NZD. If you then add 22 NZD in shipping (Youshop) + GST (15%) the price gets to about $813 NZD.

So it is actually cheaper to buy that camera here in NZ (Pricespy)

I checked out the GoPro Hero (Which might be a much better choice than anything from Alibaba). You can get that for about $200 NZD (And about the same through Amazon). Here it is on Pricespy.

Buying overseas isn't always cheaper.

Oh, and if you buy it here in NZ you are covered by the CGA :)

Compared to what video cameras used to be priced at last century, eg $2000 back in 1998 when I got one, for low res tape recording. They are reasonably priced for what you get.

+1  ... and $2,000 in 1998 dollars is equivalent to about $3,000 2015 dollars - perhaps slightly less.

I can thoroughly recommend the SJ4000, recently bought on AliExpress, specifically, this one:

Its about 85% of a gopro. What I like about this camera is that its wifi enabled. So not only can I record remotely from my cell phone I can also view and download to my iPad. Here is some test footage I recorded before Xmas.

Thanks........but do not really care what they used to be, it is what they are now that counts., Thank you for the feedback anyway.

Aliexpress is pretty reliable - I would even even say as a buyer you have more rights than settling a trade over Trademe

Brought one of these would recommend it over the entry level gopro hero.

Wifi, can take an external mic, supports 64gb sd card, image stabilization etc

second the SJ4000 I bought mine from Dealextreme and its a great bit of kit for the price. Funnily enough although these are modelled on the Go Pro there are imitations of this as well so do some research before you buy.

A plus for the SJ4000 is the extra gear you get as well, plus the LCD screen, only real downside I saw was the 720p wasn't real 60fps but my old eyes can't tell the difference
