sbiddle:
xlinknz: what are the T&Cs and legals on this, can they simply cancel and say pricing error - they can't do that in a retail store right ?

Yes they can.

I believe they can cancel it, if it is an obvious genuine error. That can be a bit subjective though, especially when there is a sale, because it is normal these days for retailers to have sales for anything up to 90% off the RRP, especially for clearing old stock, or loss leaders.

you mean for on-line purchases ?

If so then it is almost inevitable they will cancel

btw the 7" version is $203.15

If it was real surely they would limit one per person ?

I think that if the physical retail store didn't know about it, it is likely an error by the retailer. Otherwise I would have thought they would have been promoting it more as a way to get people in store. But retailers can have big discounts on some of these types of devices to clear them, so it will be interesting to see what they do. It does look like it is an older model anyway. Also windows tablets aren't great, as the apps are very limited, and infact there are now no youtube apps  that work in app mode. I would only consider one of the new surface if I was buying a windows tablet now, and it would be used in desktop mode anyway. But a big retailer like this probably shouldn't be making these types of errors, if it is an error.

Is it just me or would this have been the perfect thread for the second post to be Peter Reader saying 'Here we go'?

I ordered one cos it seems stupid not to at that price. We shall see what happens on Tuesday at a guess :)

solaybro: I kind of want one but I don't know what for.

That is the problem with small windows tablets with small amounts of diskspace and ram. I have a surface rt, and it is very limited what you can do on it these days simply due to the lack of good apps, and lack of any google app support. Really all it is good for is browsing the net. That is why the price maybe legit, becuase if you are buying a tablet of that size you are better to get an ipad or an andriod IMO. It looks like this one has the full version of windows, so you can install other things on it which is of some benefit. But with just 32GB of drive space, windows plus all it's updates is going to take up a fair chunk of that, and it will only fill up with windows updates overtime.

I ended up buying one anyway, it's only $50 and I could use it at university I guess.

I see in the confirmation email it says stock was last updated at 2:15am. So I guess if you weren't in quick they may not actually have any stock left :(

Interestingly the Baytrail Z3735F processor in this unit supports up to 2GB RAM which is what it's listed as having. The Z3735G used in the  HP Stream 7 & 8 only supports 1GB RAM so these should perform quite well by comparison.

The RRP on the Toshiba site is $489. http://www.mytoshiba.co.nz/products/computers/tablet/encore2/pdw0ba-008026/overview

I
f it's the same spec as this unit, it comes with 1yr Office 365 subscription. Add a Strontium 64GB microSD card for $36 from Noel Leeming this weekend, and you can't go wrong. Sure hope they honour this deal.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 300 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

We shall see, but yes it would be disappointing to miss out if only because there wasn't a limit on how many one could order [not that would stop anyone since it would be presumably one per email address]

What is stop to a competing retailer ordering 200 and on selling them !?

Windows 8 is heavily optimized for low end systems, you might be surprised how well even the HP Stream 7(1GB memory) runs it. As for install size that can be as low at 3-4GB for Windows 8(but slower than a normal full size install).

I don't expect these orders to be processed, but you never know.

No, they're covered in the T&Cs if they decided this is a mistake which it almost certainly is, my guess I'd it should be $348:

Goods ordered were subject to an error on the Website, for example, in relation to a description, price or image, which was not discovered prior to the Order being accepted
