Amazon has dropped the price for the Amazon Fire Phone again. Considering it comes with a $99 Amazon Prime subscription (good if you have an Amazon Fire TV for example), this could be an interesting device.

Anyone using one of these here in New Zealand?

No direct shipping to New Zealand :(

Why does Amazon do this for it's own devices? I know it's sometimes caught by exclusive distributor rights from third party goods (I don't agree mind, just understand), but surely with it's own devices it just wants volume? Warnings it might not work properly should be enough.

Price and specs look very good, though Fire OS doesn't seem to be all that well thought of. Amazon also seems to have made quite an effort to lock out custom roms. Understandable at that price I guess - blades and razors and all.

Can be sent via Youshop and it may well be cheaper than direct to NZ if it were possible.  I bought a DVD from Amazon last year and it was cheaper to send via Youshop..

Does anyone own one of these, and how do you find it in NZ?

What price was it on for when you posted this? It's showing as $449 now - I presume this is not a sale price?

freitasm: I think it was a 24 hours sale only - it was $159.

Holy Schnikees... would be worth a punt regardless at that price... Even if it wasn't your cup of tea, you'd probably find an interested buyer easily enough and break even, provided it worked with telco providers...

Only concern would be that with it being an AT&T version with unlock code, the specs for 3G are given as:

  • 3G - UMTS850/1900/2100MHz
If this is correct, it would be an issue with Vodafone/2Degrees 900Mhz sites
