richms: Generally when I am ordering online I consider it finalized as soon as I put my details in and the money has gone from my visa.

I don't think that businesses should be allowed to add their own hoops to jump thru after the fact.

Passport number is often used as a "security question" on places that have a forgotten password feature. I guess people that are foolish enough to give out their personal information to a business are also going to have put their real passport number into the forgotten password questions.

Agree totally with that.

But, also stealing passport ID is an International business.

We have already prosecuted foreign national spies for faking New Zealand passports.

Faked passports are used for all sorts of terror and murder.

If it was me, and the actually had my credit card details (rather than it going through a payment gateway like paypal or dps express), I would say no, as this could be used as identity fraud.

If they did not possess my credit card details, I would probably do it. A proof of a address and a non-certified scan of your drivers licence, wouldn't get someone far.

kingjj: OPTION 1: Confirm your place of employment by replying to this email with your company name and reception phone number. We won't talk to them about your purchase, only ask them if you are employed there.

How ridiculous.

nakedmolerat: It is dangerous to give it to random people but we are dealing with a shop here.

Aren't the staff at any business "random people", from a shopper's perspective?

Just an update. Emailed pic of 2 documents with everything but name / address blanked out.

Got a series of emails from them.

One email says delayed.

Next email says documents rejected, order will be cancelled in 48 hrs.

3 days later email says document accepted all verified.

Few days later items shipped.

Within 2-3 weeks everything showed up.
