This upgrade is for newer model, but it looks like you may be able to find update for this one also:

This apparently tells you how to upgrade to Lollipop but there are a whole load of variables and I am guessing that if you get it wrong you end up with a paperweight!

The main issue i have with products like this is being sold with very outdated OS.
Just doing a quick google it was even released with an outdated OS.

There are a bucket load of bugs/non patched holes (stagefright) etc.
Sure you might be able to update but would an 10 year old know how to do it or a "non tech" person.  Most people only know how to check/update the OS by hitting the update button in the settings, not rooting/flashing/USB debugging etc

Even some of the devices from China are on later versions of the OS.

4.1 was released 3 years ago and 4.3.1 was 2 years ago.
Would Noel lemmings etc accept a return of the device if you take it back saying some of the apps on the app store now need a minimum of 4.4.x with no clear upgrade path for this device?

(sorry this is coming from a guy that has to support non tech people buying these "new" devices with outdated OS and dealing with the fall out when I tell them that the system I support won't work on it as the OS is to old).

I would like to think that if you have been on the planet for awhile that there are no free lunches. If something is half the original price there is a reason. The consumer should be aware. I bought this for a specifc reason to test out an idea. I will stick to my now trusty Z uLtra thanks. Maybe you could offer a service to upgrade to the new lollipop for $50 I have no idea if thats practical or not.

At a tangent and seeing as how you mentioned our mates in China, Isee they are selling dual boot tablets now windows and android ! Is that workable?

Its not just the cheapies , some of the expensive ones have old Android, and no chance of upgrading the OS as they are almost instantly abandoned by the manufacturer (cough cough Samsung)

Apple should really use that to their advantage in their advertising. It is something that gives android a bad name.

but once again the majority or Android users care little or don't even bother updating, those that want the latest and greatest came update to their hearts content, mostly.

The way that mobile phones are going the market isn't one that recognizes you hang onto a phone for over 2 years. However Android by its nature is a pig to try and keep all phones updated and won't change anytime soon. Would have thought most people would know by now that and either change OS or flash the latest. Personally I couldn't/wouldn't change as I'm too used to the Android environment.
