jmh: I still can't decide.  I'm hesitant because at the moment I can't use a DNS service without DDNS because I'm with Flip (changes ip every 4-5 minutes).  But I can't get the DDNS to work consistently.  The support has been very good.  They even remote accessed my laptop to set it up for me, but it is not reliable.  The vpn works great for US but was very poor for UK (streaming iplayer) and I got better speeds with the free hola app, which I would prefer not to use.

I'm changing isp to one that offers a fixed ip, so the problem should be resolved.  Would like to know the vpn was up to speed (I think it's still beta).

Maybe I'm being too picky.

Hmmmm.....

Are you saying this won't work with flip?

The DNS on its own won't work with flip (same for the other dns providers too).  You need to use the ddns option and use a third party ip provider like no-ip.  I managed to get it working last night by setting up the ddns on my modem. This seemed to work better than changing the settings on my laptop.  The vpn should work.  I just found it a bit slow for UK servers.

Worth trying the free trial.

Thanks for the reply. That all sounds a bit too technical for me. If I get a chance i might try the trial tho.
Cheers

Sorry for cluttering the deal thread again but I have managed to solve why it didn't work for me. Sent a message to their support team and got a reply back within 5 minutes with some suggestions. Turns out it was a setting in my Antivirus that was blocking the DNS change (Secure DNS in Avast 2015). Once that is disabled it works so I can now take advantage of this deal. So if anyone else has the same trouble check your antivirus settings.

I went for the deal even though I'm not subscribed to Netflix etc at the moment. It said 10 PCs but since Getflix site says it is tied to user IP can my kids use it when they are at their mother's place?
I know some people were able to share an account with other similar services.
Thanks

It seems to work quite well, although some websites such a UKs Channel 5 still detect me being outside the UK based on my IP. Also had to tweak things to get tv3 in NZ working as it thought I wasn't in NZ

I don't know how they work out the 10 pc thing. I am guessing it is 10 concurrent connections at any one time.

Yeah, I share my Netlix with mum who lives in another house (so a different ip).  I set her up with the free vpn that comes with it, and it seems to work ok.  Not sure you could share the dns service though.

Dont bother about the DNS service if you sharing it. Just use the getflix vpn. You can use it from any IP.

The issue in any deal like this is what exactly do they mean by "lifetime"? The lifetime of those willing to blindly jump in and hand over their money for what they perceive as the deal of the century? Or the lifetime of a company that may be in a serious financial position? Certainly not the most enduring business model.

Yes I agree.  I figured if they could stagger on for two years I won't have lost any money because I would have spent the same with another company.  If the service is still good after that, then it's a good deal.  Of course if they go under tomorrow, different story.

Yeah, I'm still getting Stacksocial emails and saw yet again this morning this deal's still going... doesn't necessarily send the best signals, and p!sses me off a bit I made the decision in a hurry to sign up as I thought the offer was closing!
