I've PM'd my case number.

 

I haven't contacted GoWifi as Cambium support had said that they would be doing so on my behalf and I didn't want to cause an unnecessary nuisance bypassing/duplicating it. 

 

My other E400 is rock solid, just like the rest of yours with an uptime over a week with the same config that the faulty one had.

My sticker came off very easily. There was a tiny dot of glue left on the unit, but that came off by rolling the glue-side of the sticker back over the sticky spot a couple of times, and it lifted the residual glue off on the second try. Result was a spotless clean removal. I guess I got lucky.... or maybe it was because I was at home (and the unit has sat here all day), so the sticker was already slightly warmed by then!

...specifically mentions that major features are chargeable extras, and so only minor features are included in 12 months of updates. Again, I'm quite surprised by that, but I guess they want to reserve the right to charge new features as an upgrade.

 

Not a deal breaker, but worth bearing in mind for those still thinking about buying these units...

Any views about whether horizontal/ceiling mount or vertical/wall mount is preferable?

 

I've got an upstairs where ceiling mount is probably easier and a downstairs where wall mount is certainly easier. Am I going to cause myself any dramas doing one of each?

If I could make one other suggestion it would be to either include a bit of cardboard for screw spacing (when wall mounting with wood screws) or including self tapping wood screws that work with the plastic base. I had to physically pry my one off the wall both damaging the wall and the backing of the AP in the process as I used the wood screws with the plastic base (hey, I am a geek, not a "screwing things into walls" expert!). Other than that really impressed with the performance, features and stability of my AP after a few teething issues.

 

Also, any chance of root access to the AP itself? ;)

When screwing into a wooden wall you do not need to use the plastic lugs, you should drill a small guiding hole and then screw into that.  The light duty plastic anchor is is a for dry wall/ceiling mounts, it can also be used for masonry with a suitable guide hole too.

Hi Roy, I think the main point here is that ONLY the machine screws and metal baker should be used with the plastic mounting bracket. The other screws sick up too far and cause the AP to become locked to the bracket.
If mounting to drywall or wood walls the keyholes on the AP should be used.

It may be worth including some notes about this in the package.

Exactly. With zero documentation, it wasn't obvious while standing on a ladder that the supplied screws aren't meant to be used with the supplied bracket. I also still don't get what the metal piece is for. It would be unreasonably fiddly to line it up above the ceiling with the plastic bracket below!! Perhaps for mounting under a cable tray?

Update on my issue: Go Wi-Fi sent me a replacement this morning which arrived same day!! These guys are fantastic. Go Wi-Fi also informed me that Cambium aren't going to send me a courier label like they said they were going to and that I should instead ship the faulty unit to (Go Wi-Fi), which I did this afternoon.

It is for cieling tiles, where you would lift the tile out. Its needed since those cieling tiles have aproximatly zero strenght and will just crumble if you try to screw into them. With the unifi ones when I put them in at old work the screws just pushed thru the tiles without even needing a drill. Metal place spreads the load so it doesnt pull straight back thru like small nuts would, even with washers.
