This freeview box is available at jbhifi at a fairly sizeably reduced rate.

Is this an example of an item that has a grossly over-inflated RRP and only really represents value at its "special" price (or even below...)?

Anyone know anything about this box? I've just ditched Sky and Up to now, I've used my Xbox one S as my media centre with HDMI passthrough from the sky box. I like the all-in-one solution so I'm looking for something that will allow freeview recording to a USB storage device from a decent epg interface for the odd bit of domestic broadcaster content.

Looking at the reviews on the JB-Hifi site it looks like they have reliability issues, so I would give them a miss:

 

"had 3 of them , memory issues , channel wouldnt change , and completey non responsive :( waste of time"

 

"bought two of these on Saturday and one did not work, took back and got excellent service from JB and had it replaced immediately. second box worked well for first 24hrs. then since have had a message come up on screen which says "Unfortunately UI System is not working", so unable to watch T.V. very disappointed."

There is no major issue with this product. It is possible that the units sold by JB HiFi may have old software on them and if not upgraded to latest software may cause some applications to fail. There is support from DTV Solutions for this product and help can be obtained from DTV Solutions.

 

On the reviews posted on this site, we are quite surprised to see the negative reviews as we have many happy customers of this product. If DTV Solutions were contacted with the issues we would have been happy to resolve. This product is one of its kind. There is nothing on the NZ market close to this product and provides versatility. Developing this product, we also achieved a major industry milestone, first in the world to have a working MHEG-5 Android product.

 

Buy with confidence at the special price available. We have turned on the OTN upgrade so the latest software can be obtained via the upgrade option. Also, please check our website forum for the channel file which will allow loading of channels via a USB memory key.

Thanks Anil, your informative and forthright input is appreciated, as is your commitment to support. I did indeed go ahead and purchased one of the boxes although I have yet to set it up. Going to have a play with it this evening. Can you advise if it doubles as a kind of streaming/kodi box for online content?
