As I suspected.. leaked to the discounts pages

https://www.cheapies.nz/deals/octopoly.com

So bet a few ignored the request to join up :/

I think sharing it on cheapies was still fine. What tipped it over was when it went viral in various Asian countries :)

freitasm:

The guys @octopoly are offering a free .kiwi / .buzz domain for one year PLUS one free Exchange email account to Geekzone users.

The email account includes 5GB storage plus

To claim this offer you have to use the code GEEKZONE.

No mention of when this offer ended. I tried today, and the code didn't work, so I found https://www.cheapies.nz/deals/octopoly.com in the forum, and there it says it has expired. :-(

@freitasm perhaps you could pin an update to this forum to say it has expired? Save others from going through the registration process necessary.

Thanks of organising this offer - I'll be faster next time!

Worked well, and the DNS change has made it to my hosts after about an hour - faster than some other Domain Registrars I use.
Thanks!
Steve

Same problem as others .. only when I went back to the domain choice page, the site was "taken".

Will try again.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Put it in whois.domaintools.com and see who the registra is. If its currently held and by 'Umbrellar Limited t/a Domain Agent' See the Naughty Domains thread.

They have reserved all hosts associated with their peer companies and calling the owner to see if they want to secure it with them instead.

No worries @Shindig. Did you also claim your free mailbox and cloud storage?

Let me know if you need help.

I see that this is free only for the first year. But what are ongoing prices after the 1st year. When I look up the prices on the domain page, it says .kiwi domains are $0.00. Does this mean that they are always free?

Good question.

Thanks @nevilb, good timing. We have just lowered the registration and renewal price for .KIWI to $28, based on a price reduction from the registry. You can find all domain prices under the following link octopoly.com/domains. The .KIWI price might still come up as $38, but will be from now on $28.

Let me know if you have questions.

Cheers,

Daniel
