Is this a good deal or not, Sony KD55X8500E for $1797 via an emailed coupon from jbhifi. Good price ? Good TV ? Doubt if I could afford it but I live in hope.

Price and Value is good. I have 3 Android TV's (SONY) at home and they are the best TV's in terms of usability of Smart features. I believe this is UHD HDR 4K? If so - it's a very good value.

It's a fairly average price for it. Pricespy history shows Noel Leeming were $1898 that price a few weeks ago with their 20% off sale.

Personally I wouldn't buy one because it's edge lit and I find such screens terrible - but that's me being quite fussy. Lot of people won't notice the bleed.

Many people regard Android TV as being pretty slow on the Sony devices, but it's a bonus being able to run a lot of apps without needing a 3rd party box.

$1800 for a UHD TV running Android... pretty sweet IMHO.

It might not be the top of the tree, but it would still be nice to splash out, though I really don't think the financial controller will let me spend that much to replace something that's still working just fine (unfortunately).

I've got the KD55X8500C and I love it. 2.5 years old.

I have no issues with speed.

Only pain in the a*** is Plex and no 5.1 sound, but I can live with it (rasPlex if I get desperate).

Would the 8500E have working Plex on it?

Tipped over the Panny OLED to the Sony A1 here for the apps. Seriously in love 3 months later. Dont regret a cent of the cough cough almost 8k I paid. Very very happy with Android Tv. As said it has it quirks but casting and use is soooo good. Hate my Panny plasma's now and never thought I would say that.

Yes it does and it works very well. I have a soundbar connected via ARC HDMI out and it does 5.1 channel too.
