Review put them as very nice headphones.  There is talk of the issue about switching between different devices - anyone have experience with this?  Is it a big problem?

Also noted that there is a "Import Deposit" even though putting the details in what's my duty estimator it comes in under.  Anyone with experience in getting their "deposit" refund?

Their "deposit" works as in money is charged. If customs charges anything, the deposit will cover it. If they charge more than the deposit, Amazon covers the difference, if they charge less (or nothing) you get the refund/difference.

I have the newer WH1000XM2 which came out last month.

The only issue I'd have with buying them from Amazon is that there was a known issue with the band snapping. This was resolved and you'd assume these are newer stock that have these fixed.

Where does it say that it was resolved?

I only paid $419 for my WH1000XM2's from JB HiFi a few weeks ago. When I was discussing the issue with the staff one mentioned they had a pair that snapped but that newer stock had the issue fixed.

I realise that - I'm merely pointing out the major issue with the original model was the band snapping but that JB have said it was fixed in newer stock. This is obviously quite an issue if you're buying headphones outside NZ and need to make a warranty claim.

Mind posting some links to back this up?

I can't find any nor can I find any reference on the Internet to problems with the WH1000XM2 except for a very obvious troll on Reddit claiming the WH1000XM2's have the same issue despite having absolutely no evidence to back this up, and being pretty well discredited by numerous other people in the thread.

As for the staff lying, what purpose would they have? I wasn't even buying the MDR1000X's. While discussing the headphones the staff member I spoke to mentioned having had their MDR1000X's crack and replaced, and had been told by Sony that the newer stock of these did not suffer from the same problem as the initial stock.

I saw the comments about the breaking head bands - fixed or not, it was enough for me to drop the idea.

Thanks for the explanation on the "deposit".

I purchased the WH1000XM2 knowing about the cracking issue in the older model. I figure I will be covered under the CGA if any issues, so not bothered. Great headphones.

I was only put off from buying them from Amazon; no CGA!

Amazon is really good at putting things right. Sometimes better than NZ retailers.
