I am interested in this but have few questions.

Currently using Amazon cloud backup as an off-site solution for my personal photos and videos (about 500GB) - do you think this is a good alternative?

Amazon recently closed their unlimited plan and now increased the price which means i need to pay double the price for 1TB offering.

I wouldn't trust a "lifetime subscription" to last my lifetime.  2TB of hard drives costs more than USD37.50 so where is the money coming from to run their service?

I've checked them out before, but I've found some negative reviews on them.

Here's one: https://www.bestvpn.com/avoid-zoolz-backup-service-if-you-value-privacy/

The comments section tells you quite a bit :)

Although, it will still be good to know if others have good experiences with Zoolz :)

I have been using them for about 2 years now for my backups.  Only had 1 issue with them but a click right click and recalc cleared it up.

You just have app that sites on your machine and you say which folder you want backed up, it polls the folders each hour and if there are changes it will upload the changes.

It's very set and forget but have pulled files back off it with no issue.  Think i paid around $50US for it early last year, so have had my money worth.

Oh also if you are worried about putting stuff up on it then you can also use cryptomator and backup the encrypted folder that cryptomator creates before it leaves your PC

I got this when it was 500GB/500GB but have stopped using it. Was trying to use the cold storage to store security camera recordings (250MB files) offsite, taken from my Mac. The Zoolz backup app (only goes to cold storage) was constantly crashing and stopping. When it did work it was quite slow to back up, often it would barely keep up with the files to be backed up.

I also couldn't find a way to manage files to or from the hot storage other than via a browser.

So it may work fine for certain applications, but I found it unreliable, slow and with limited functionality. Perhaps Windows based uses are catered for better.

I use the 500/500 plan atm.  It works.  Also had issues with the client but a reinstall seemed to fix it eventually.  I dont really back much up onto it that I dont already have backed up into my google drive account. But Ive found it useful for storing the odd bit here and there.

The hot storage is a pain in the butt - you will need to manually upload / download everything via a browser.  And realistically I never use it.

I did have to recover 40gb of backups I had stored on there as there was one file I needed (of course!) but couldnt remember which set it was in :p  It worked for that. Took a couple of hours from memory to actually get to download the stuff though.

I can’t see how the economics works on this considering the price of a 2 TB Drive is around double that price.

Im guessing they are counting on not everyone using up all the space or people ordering and forgetting about it.

I've been using the 500/500 lifetime for about 18 months. Photos, documents,  - everything that I don't want to loose if my house burnt down / burgled / zombie attack.

Have used 200Gb of the cold storage so far.

A bit of hot storage - I have found Chrome to be the best Web interface for moving files to and from the Hot Storage.

The standard package doesnt support a server hosted client - it needs a desktop client. So I copy all files off my server to a spare HDD on on Win7 PC, and Zoolz uploads from there.

It took a while initially to seed, but now it just ticks over.

Have recovered a few "mislaid" photos, so all seems to work OK for me.

My thoughts are no longer my own and is probably representative of our media-controlled government
