My work is a CSC (group buying organisation) platinum member. Let's just say "our" price (available only in-store at Noel Leeming) was around the $420s. By simultaneously placing an order for the yet to be released Momentum True Wireless earbuds from Sennheiser (which with the CSC discount went down to $370-something as well), I was able to ask for a further $50 off on the headphones, which I picked up for $375 I think. Both of these are new/"hot" products and if there's this kind of discount available with relatively little effort on my part, it just shows you the insane margins that our retailers have.

Moral of the story, if you are after these headphones or anything from Noel Leeming, ask to borrow someone's corporate CSC card/get them to buy it for you.

Really looking forward to hearing the Sony!

Would you be able to help a brother out? Looking to buy the XM3 and wondering if I could pay you to get the headphone for me

Hi, I can't PM you. I don't necessarily know if I will be able to get the same price again but more than happy to help if you are in Auckland by flashing my CSC card and applying a bit of social charm. And no need to pay me -- just make it convenient for both of us and I am happy to help. If you're outside Auckland, provided you cover the courier (and understand that it's at your risk), I am happy to do it so long as you aren't in a hurry as I will probably only do it some time during the Xmas-NY break. Suggest you try PMing me and we can go from there.

Probably a bit too late but I saw these selling for $399 at the Sony store at Sylvia Park. Pretty sure you can talk to one of the sales rep and haggle the price down even further.

BTW, I got one of these myself recently and a bit disappointed by the noise cancelling. It cancels out a lot of noise, such as fans blowing or hairdryer noise, etc. But I was hoping it'd cancel the sound of people talking around me, but it doesn't seem to do it. I have to actively play music while NC is on to not hear anything (sometimes can still a bit of faint talking). If you use just NC with no music playing, you can still hear people. Which makes me wonder what's the point of the ambient sound modes? Because a lot of the examples for using this were something like hearing the announcer talking while on the train. But ambient sound doesn't cancel as much noise as using Noise Cancelling mode, so the presumption here would be that the Noise Cancelling cancels out voices completely and that you'd have to switch to ambient sound to hear a bit of noise. That's not the case here though, you could just keep Noise Cancelling on and still hear voices.

Or perhaps it's just my headset?

You have a slightly unrealistic expectation of what N/C is both capable of and supposed to achieve. The main purpose (both for active and passive) is to cancel out low frequency background sounds such as plane noise, traffic, or as you've experienced a hairdryer or fan.

They're not designed to (and can't) fully cancel out somebody talking next to you, but it will muffle the sound.

Pretty much what Sbiddle said. No ANC headphones can completely cancel out the noise of others talking around you. And I've used most of the best ones that money can buy around this price range.

Thanks, good to know that mine is working as expected. I pretty much bought this as soon as I found a good deal, never really owned a pair of expensive noise cancelling headphone before. I did test them a few times prior to buying and were amazed by it, but I don't think there were people talking around me at the time of my testings..

I remember standing in a store once looking at headphones when a couple came along. The guy tried on a pair of Bose QC35's while his partner then shouted "can you hear me" to which he replied yes, took off the headphones and then proceeded to have a discussion about how expensive and useless they were.

Fair enough if you expect them to eliminate all noise. Dude just needed his expectations changed - or combine some wireless earbuds with some Peltor X5a muffs.

I have the first version -1000x. They certainly make the sound of my coworkers talking much much more muted. While it's not silent it's very close.

On sale this weekend at PBTech for $395, price might be a bit steep.

For the extra $15 I’d probably take warranty that comes with it from PBTech to be honest, if it was a really good deal I’d probably grab them for my wife, that way I’d get mine back.
