What d'you think for 500 bucks ? it ain't a Sony A1 but any thoughts on viewing angles etc ?

I personally wouldn't touch one if you paid me $499 to take if off your hands. Viewing angles and picture are terrible.

It is however a TV, and many issues that people such as myself would care about or notice are simply invisible to others. Your best bet is to look at the TV instore and decide if you like it.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Oh well, there's not a lot of money about at the moment in these parts.

Also, checking in store would be nice, but being in Whakatane, they seem to have them by the dozen in boxes but of the half dozen they actually have set up, non are of this model.

trouble is the veon TV doesn't work like a TV. a couple of years ago it was a panel with bugged software and a remote that doesn't control anything. but the panel itself is fine.

so if you route everything via a set top box/ media box/ xbox/ etc and all you do is turn it on and never use anything that the TV comes with, then you're good.

BUT i suggest creating another forum to ask

Well if we actually get one it would use a dvb-s box for OTA and a Fire TV or Shield for everything else. Don't suppose the tv's remote would be for anything more than power, volume and switching HDMI's, if thats what you mean.

Obviously not much of interest going by the this thread. 2017 had more posts by now, and 2016 more than 2017.

I guess the margins / hence discounts aren't as "good" as they once were.

Online comparisons / EBay / AliExpress etc have all had an obvious impact.

...and the "lack" of any major breakthrough "must have" product etc.

= more mediocrity?

It is fine for your purpose.

Looking for a Laptop for my grand daughter for college next year. Had a look at PB tech xlease PCs.   Plenty listed but not available online and when I look at the  store stock mostly nil stock apart from maybe one store in the country.

https://www.dell.com/en-nz is running a Boxing Day sale so you might get a good deal there.

From tonight's Simpsons Christmas episode:

Street banner saying ...

"Reverse Sale - 50% ON"

At least they are honest! (Eh SB)

(Here it is 30% ON then 25% OFF Boxing Day Sale!)

There's always loss leaders and 'door busters'.

However, retailers like Harvey's will roll out different loss leaders through out the sale week... some of which will interest you, many of which will not!

To my knowledge, Noel Leeming / JB's doesn't do this, but they will often price match if they carry the same / similar products.

Anyone know what these are like?

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/televisions/televisions/ultra-hd-4k-televisions/60-69-uhd-tvs/panasonic-th-65fx640z-65-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-led-television/prod162509.html

Seems like a really good deal to me, looking at updating my 5 year old 50" which is starting to show a bit of burn. Not looking to spend over $2K

Not sure how good the Panasonic is, but there is a really awesome Sony 55" on sale:

And review (pretty sure its for this model):

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900f

Edit: did some more research into the Panasonic, it doesn't support HDCP2.2 so will be missing some features from Blurays (maybe gaming too) such as HDR
