I just saw this deal on GrabOne and it seems to not really be a deal. Your Pure plan (100/20, unmetered) is $89.99 per month with the first six months half price under a twenty four month contract.

44.995 * 6 = 269.97
89.99 * 18 = 1619.82

Total: 1889.79

To compare, BigPipe offer a regular price for the comparable plan of $79.00 per month ($1896 for twenty four months) which means consumers would save a whopping $6.21 over the course of two years instead of simply taking BigPipe's regularly priced offer from which they can leave at any time if the service degrades.

So where is the deal? I mean that is, what, three days free compared to BigPipe? I'd expect at least a month or two for free if a two year contract is in order.

BigPipe only offer UFB in Wellington and Auckland.  MyRepublic offer it everywhere.  There is life south of the Bombay Hills / north of the Hutt / etc.

There are a few other differences with us and the Bigpipe deal you are comparing with

The plan comes with a Gigabit AC-WiFi router, no connection fee and the option of a home phone (if needed) which includes national calling minutes and free features such as voicemail/call waiting etc and if you ever have any problems you can pick up the phone to chat to our NZ based support team

I'm with my republic on 100/20 pure I joined last Jan on the 3 month free promo so it worked out at $75 a month including clne and voice. I have been quite happy.

That said my MR contract is due up in Jan 2015 so it is pleasing to see competition hotting up

I think I have this right but Big Pipe are owned by Spark ex Telecom and my view if people didn't support competition we wouldn't have the prices we have now... Are Big Pipe/Spark using their size or market position ? - probably.

That said I do strongly prefer no term to contracts so I can vote with my feet

@kelots I understand the differences (an additional cost for an optional phone line is hardly a plus though...) but I figured that this was going to be an actual 'deal' rather than just comparable prices to other retailers. Isn't that what GrabOne is for? I'm thinking along the lines of a product most people buy $25 being sold for a short time at, say, $15.

I am curious though, is this claim actually true? "We buy more bandwidth per user than any other national ISP. This means all your streaming and gaming never gets compromised during peak hours." 

How can we verify this? That would be an interesting point of difference for me. I thought companies like Spark or Vodafone would buy the most bandwidth due to their much larger market share. Hardly anything on grabone is a deal anymore. Its just an advertising method like redalert etc are.

What I was referring to earlier is that straight price comparison is not Apples for Apples - we provide a different level of service to Bigpipe.

If you're looking for a low cost naked service, without hardware or and limited support options then they may be the provider for you

The deal on GrabOne is a great discount on our own prices. You save over $400 off our RRP when you include the hardware/connection fees.

It does however become very comparable to the competition depending on what you buy, not looking to pick on a competitor but using your math from above on our 200/200Mbps plan for instance:

59.99 * 6 = 359.97
119.99 * 18 = 2159.82
Total: 2519.79

vs Bigpipes 200/200 would be $3096+Setup+Router over the term

When ISP's purchase international/national bandwidth, they buy an amount per user. This is the root cause of problems like congestion and what drives behavior like throttling. Our lines are provisioned for the high speed service our customers buy, not spread across a base largely consisting of aDSL customers. 

The statement is that we buy more bandwidth per user than any other National ISP - its something the big guys simply can't do.  Another international cable will be needed to deliver our bandwidth per user on a customer base the size of Spark of Voda

The claim whether true or false doesn't matter to me, its what performance [& service] I actually get that matters

I'm sure the appropriate authorities will be all over MR if this constitutes false adverting, if my memory serves me Xtra and maybe another Telco were done for false claims
