dclegg: Our number one issue with LightBox at the moment is the inability to reliably pause shows.

We watch by using AirPlay to stream from our iPads (either iPad2 or iPad Air, both running iOS 7.1) to an Apple TV3 (running latest OS). If we pause a show for long enough (generally > 1 minute), playback will only resume for the remaining content that was buffered when playback was paused (approximately 1 minute). So it seems to me that once a show has paused for a set period of time, it refuses to continue to buffer once playback resumes.

This is a real PITA, as in order to recover you need to exit playback, select the previous episode (as the UI has now positioned you at the next episode in the series), press Play, then use the scrubber to try and position yourself at the point in time where playback stopped.

Are there any other users out there with a similar setup, and if so are you seeing the same issue?

Follow up question. I'm currently loving Orphan Black (although I had to parallel import the missing ep4 ;-)). Do you know when you'll have Season 2 available?

In general, the site should have some NEWS section or UPDATE section where they could put exciting information that will keep people on their toes. That front page is just dead and not moving

We're still chasing the issues around buffering that seem to affect Vodafone customers in disproportion.

The fresher examples we have, the easier it is for our vendors to trace and isolate issues, so I am looking for examples to work off. I am hoping some of you may be able to help me out here.

If you experience buffering (across all devices) and you're with Vodafone, can I please ask you to send me a private message containing the following:

 

  • What date and time you saw issues.
  • Which specific piece of content was affected (show, season, episode). 
  • If you can grab the streaming URL (e.g. using the JavaScript Console in Chrome) that's very valuable for us.
  • What email address your Lightbox account is registered under.
  • If you have multiple issues, it would be very useful if you can log them (e.g. in a spreadsheet).

Just a quick question, I'm keen about Lightbox but are you guys looking at offering a Silverlight free facility using Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) which are available on Safari, Internet Explorer 11 and IIRC Chrome?

Hi Kawaii,

We're looking at it, but while Silverlight is still supported across most setups, it's hard to justify the effort and spend to build additional player types that only support a subset of browsers. It's also a fairly new standard, so any alternative setup would require a blessing from all of our content partners from a security perspective before we could make it available.

Is there any update on when Lightbox/Silverlight will not use browser information stored in a cookie to register a device.  Apparently I have maxed out my device list again.  Yet I only have 1 ipad, 1 pc and 1 laptop.

I would rather see something useful like smart tv and roku etc apps than a change in player to suit a minority group of people.

Don't know if this has been previously mentioned, bu thte sound level seems to be really low, and can't seem to adjust it. Tried it on two different computers and both have the same probelm. Also playback on wifi devices is often jittery, even though the connection speed is good @ 10MB +, and no problems playing full HD youtube vids.

Agree about sound level.  I have the same problem.


It seems to autoadjust the sound, because when you first start the program, it is really loud for about a second then decreases. Really wish there was a way to manually adjust things such as video quality . Maybe it is something to do with the silverlight container that it is being played through, as that also has a habit of crashing. Also had the problem of programs stopping midway through them. It all very much seems a beta type of service.
