robbon44: i wonder how Lightbox's viewing numbers will vary after next month.. anyone from Lightbox care to tell us how their actual numbers are trending compared to projected ??  

 

 

 

Hasn't everyone been given an extra two months free automatically? If so it probably won't make any affect until March / April, and potentially they may offer ISP customers another deal to keep their numbers up, as they do need a big subscriber base to keep the momentum.

 I don't have the details but I seem to recall when Lightbox launched, Spark customers could sign up for 6 (?) months at half price. Then, Spark rolled out the promotion during that 6 months period where you would get 12 months for free. Unfortunately I can't recall what that email said about the continuation of that 1/2 price offer... Does anyone else remember this?

Dingbatt: Still waiting for the ability to pay for lightbox in my Spark bill. Otherwise no subscription. The credit card I had to provide is no longer valid, so I guess the subscription will just expire.

 

I'm pretty certain that this is in the works and will be a thing soon. I've heard a few rumours and I'm sure I remember reading it somewhere too. @lightbox could confirm?

I noticed in Noel Leeming that they have 3 and 6 month Lightbox gift cards. I couldn't get close enough to them to see if they were indeed 3 and 6 months, or 90 and 180 days.
Was considering this option until the latest chromecast update which has broken both Lightbox and Youtube to my Panasonic TV. Picture keeps blanking, HDCP related I think.

Certainly it is confusing, reinforced by their marketing team also confused, when they initially advertised it as 'one year' free in their press release, when it was 5 days short of that. A calendar month is easier for the customer to manage, as you then know the exact day the billing cycle starts each month, and I believe things like their Spark ISP services are billed per calender month, not per  30 days. It does allow up to an extra couple of percent revenue per year, so I am guessing the bean counters came up with that billing period.

i got the deal from spark and frankly don't care how whether it was 360 or 365 days.

 

there's a few good shows but picture and sound quality is so crap that they should be paying me to watch it.

I have watched Lightbox shows on a 50" plasma from a chromecast and a 42" plasma from a PS3 and thought that the picture and sound were quite acceptable when watching content that was HD originally. I gave up trying to watch on a PC a long time ago because it was a laggy mess.

We watch via the PS4 app, and cannot fault the picture quality.

 

There is a quirk sometimes where the volume will increase for a couple of seconds. This tends to happen around times that our Internet connection is struggling. But apart from that, the viewing quality is every bit as good as NetFlix (which is generally the Gold Standard). In fact, NetFlix can take a few seconds to dial into a full HD stream, whereas Lightbox starts off as HD from the start.

Just had an email from lightbox saying that in 5 days they would begin charing my credit card on file for the next month. However I logged into my Lightbox page, and it show I have 2 discounts remaining (this was after the 1st ordeal where they hadn't added the additional 2 months ). Anyone else get the email saying that they would begin being charged in 5 days? I am sure they will put it right, like they did last time, but they they erode confidence in their billing systems

That was under the old telecom. The new spark is a far different and more progressive company, and I think their new CEO has had a lot to do with the turnaround.
