When are we likely to see an update to the iOS app to support iPhone X screen size?

Also, any update on if/when we might expect it on Xbox One?

iPhone X screen size is 19.5:9 to our content's 16:9 ... we've no plans to alter the app to accommodate this aspect ratio as yet. Plus I'd want to see device market penetration stats before committing to developing.

Xbox One app is still not on the roadmap. I'm sad about this too, but we've got some big stuff coming and that's taking priority...

@GeorgefromLightbox it's not just an issue of the screen size. When you watch Lightbox on iPhone X the picture doesn't stretch right to the bottom of the screen and the new Home Bar doesn't disappear. This makes viewing Lightbox on the iPhone X quite unpleasant.

EDIT: In fact the video doesn't go right to the top of the screen either. You get 1mm blank screen above the video and 3mm blank below. And as mentioned above, in the 3mm gap at the bottom the Home Bar remains visible throughout the show.

@GeorgefromLightbox also please note my edit above explaining how the picture doesn't quite go to the top of the screen when viewing video either.

Thanks for your help.

Lightbox doubt that Apple's flagship phone will achieve 'market penetration'? Bwahahahaha.

Maybe Apple will change the iPhone X's aspect ratio to fit in with Lightbox's offering.

No worries. Have recreated it here (the white Home Bar, alongside the known issue with the aspect ratio).

Our stats on iPhone X usage make it hard to justify fixing ... :/

I wasn't saying the flagship device WON'T get penetration; I am saying that it is probably low penetration - and it turns out I'm right: 0.74% of our app users have an iPhone X

So, if you'd like to hand-on-heart claim you'd go through a round of app development (with everything that entails) for that small a user base, I call BS.  :D

On the other hand, not a great look to not properly support the flagship model of the worlds most popular smartphone.

Maybe because the X has only been available for a month or so?

Maybe you could think ahead rather than wait until it gets to "Oh yeah - it is popular".

That resolution is likely to be around for a long time now - so you're probably going to have to accomodate it sooner or later.

So you'd go all-out developing specifically for a high-end phone before it was clear how many of your user base were using it?

Oh, and 'thinking ahead' ... yeah, that's a thing we do. However when it comes to Apple who are notoriously secretive, you get little-to-no information about upcoming handsets. You know that, surely? So if you think they'd give us an iPhone X to 'think ahead' with before it hits the market, you are dreaming.

At the end of the day, I'm not saying we'll NEVER look at this. I'm saying, right now, we won't be. It'd be many thousands of dollars developing for an extremely small user base.

@GeorgefromLightbox I agree that is fairly low market penetration at the moment. But I'd ask you to consider that updating to support the new screen size and suppressing the Home Bar will absolutely have to be done at some point, so why wait?

Market penetration will only increase, and if industry predictions are correct all 3 new models next year will have this new aspect ratio and no physical home button.

The time and money will have to be spent; doing it later saves nothing in the long run, while doing it early keeps all customers happy.

EDIT: By "early" I mean "sooner rather than later". Obviously you need to know the specs of the device you are updating for and be able to test before you can actually do it.

Yup, I hear ya. Again, it's not "Never"...just "Not right now". There are some big things in progress...

I think it's already answered. They are waiting because they have prioritised other work ahead of this. i.e. Other stuff is more important right now.

Obviously I'm unlikely to change their roadmap with some comments on an Internet forum, my above comment was simply disagreeing with the argument that the cost involved didn't justify it. I personally think it's a strange decision, but I'd imagine the 99.26% of users who don't have an iPhone X couldn't care less!

I'll be interested to see what "big things" are being worked on. But, like most people on the Internet, I am pretty selfish and unless it is an update for the iPhone X or an Xbox One app (which it isn't) I can't imagine it will be something that benefits me much. But I might be really surprised.

I appreciate the quick response and honesty from @GeorgefromLightbox
