I use Quickflix on my Tivo, there's a lot of content there available in HD, and the only SD stuff I'd call bad quality is old material from like the 80s - Cracker looks a bit fuzzy (but not as fuzzy as when he played Hagrid).
The only issue I've had is a paid download that was corrupted somehow so it turned into pixelated gibberish about 15 minutes into the movie. A couple of emails got us a refund on that download.

If NetFlix do come, I'd expect to see a catalogue similar to NetFlix UK, with a bit more local content. If I'm right on this, then that would put them leaps and bounds ahead of QuickFlix.

NF UK is a pretty big market.  I'm not sure numbers, but Netherlands and the south american catalogs get much newer content than the US, but have much smaller catalogs.  Even Canada does.

So I guess its up to whatever licensing they can cook up....or what restrictions are put in place by incumbents.

paddyb: We're running HD content across many devices already - definitely more to come, yes, and across the different products we offer too.


Chromecast. Gotta say it's a nifty little device and there are plenty of examples on how to build apps for it.

If you are going to the effort to develop an Android app, you would be nuts to not include ChromeCast support.

More apps and content coming soon.....lol Wasn't that a launch statement and we're still waiting for most popular apps and that to launch sorry but maybe your definition and my definition of soon are not the same thing.  Don't get me wrong contents improved a hell of a lot but you're quoting the same thing that's been said since day 1.

I have a look occasionally, but haven't subscribed.

The major issues I have are, in order of priority:

 

  • the poor content range
  • the range of devices it works on, and lastly
  • the price.

Until the content range is closer to competing offerings like Netflix, or the Sky movies/SoHo bundle, I'm just not interested - irrespective of any price drop.

I still have a subscription to Quickflix while trying out netflix.  been thinking of dropping Quickflix due to cost.  Felt it was reasonable at $10 a month but almost $15 I felt too much for what it has.

I would like to see documentaries like storm chasers, ww2,nazis, hitler, holocaust etc etc.

the other thing I hate is having to ring to watch as even though only 3 devices it says too many activated.  Also a couple of times part way through watching a film and it disappears. gone no longer available, so now trying out netflix.
