The N600 is a really old router now so could be worth starting there . It could just be dying.

Biggest thing will be to see if it's within the LAN or not.
Exactly this. Ring up and ask them to please confirm your recent PPPoE login history, they're not going to ask you to reboot your router etc.
And if turns out your PPPoE connect is restarting every ~minute between specific hours, they will either heard of it before and have some suggestions or, more likely, raise it up the line to the tech team.
Not sure why you want to delete the thread, you've raised a lot of interest with your specific time-of-day outages (not a common fault at all). It reminds me of this story. We're all curious to know what's actually going on, don't delete it! And even if it does turn out to be something at your end, there's no shame in that. I once shouted and screamed at TelstraClear for a fault that, turns out, was a failing power supply in my Firewall causing noise on the line and the ADSL line to drop badly.

This is what I'm wondering too, gets to a certain point of the day when the house gets warm enough and something fails, then it starts to cool down later in the day and recovers.

Time to put the router in front of the AC!
Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
I sat in front of the router and yes indeed, all the lights went off at 1300 and it rebooted.
Rinse and repeat every ten minutes exactly until 1650.
There is no auto reboot option in the admin menu. The scheduling table is empty.
Maybe it's been hacked?
I'm going to bust it open and clean out any dust, disconnect everything bar the power and watch it tomorrow afternoon.

I assume it's just faulty, I can't think of any reason a bad actor would get it to reboot at a specific time. I think it's just time to chuck it out and use it as an excuse to the S/O for a new piece of hardware!

Also consider the PSU.
But please just get a new router.

There is more to this!! The precision of the failing time and intervals is beyond the simple actions of a failing power supply. The power supply may be failing but these resets are being caused by an external influence. I suspect that there are fluctuations on the mains supply possibly caused by motors or similar starting loads. Is there any sign of flicker on the lights coinciding with the router restarts?
Anything else plugged into the same outlet?
Try a factory reset of the router in case it is a corrupt setting.

But still though. I'd replace the router. It's old and there are better routers out there these days.

I'm sorry, I just have to ask...
Is this a slow run-up to an April 1st punchline ?
This thread! Amazing.
Has to be either
A) Some sort of firmware bug/hack
B) Power supply isssue
Would changing the time in the router be one way of narrowing down the router itself as a cause? As in just before 1300, set it to 1230 and see if it still reboots at 1300 on the dot.
Doing this might mess with general router functionality, but it could help narrow things down.

What it says in the title...
Oh, I was expecting a topic about ne-er-do-wells, tramps and vagabonds from the Middle Ages to the English Civil War.
Just to wrap this up:
The modem was rebooting every 10 minutes from exactly 1300-1700 every day, regardless of ambient temperature.
I updated the router firmware and the issue has gone away.
I really wish I could figure out the cause, but mostly glad I now have a stable connection...
