Yea, well done Highlanders, but, wow, that scrum was a huge worry. Evened out a lot around the time Moore went off. That last 8 min or so were trying. Loved Aaron having to tell the ref the game was over!!

Funny, networkn, I have also been wondering how on earth rugby manages to get 30ish seats on a plane plus accommodation at no notice. Can't figure how that works.

Now I have to sweat thru our Canes battle tomorrow night!

Most rugby matches are bizarre. There is always one or two or more calls that can be debated. Thing is, in a big game it's the calls in the last 20 that in reality would alter the outcome of the match.

1. I thought that was a try which they couldn't see therefore couldn't award.
2. It was 50-50 a shoulder charge coz his arms did come forward, but did lag behind the shoulder.

I thought the game was 50-50 but thought the Brumbies could and should have won it but for their own faults.

Declining 3 points.
Camped in HL 22 for 15 mins and scored 0.

I thought as reply shows DIXON shoulder to shoulder was OK as ref said. But agree, if it was not play offs yellow card for highlanders. I hope no doubts about BRU's yellow card, right?

No the Yellow to the Brumbies for repeated penalties was absolutely right. Just needed to be consistent and HL should have had someone in the bin for their own repeated penalties.

The highlanders did not infringe on front of the try line like the brumbies. They also have away lots of their penalties because the could not compete with the brumbies scrum.

This year i have been impressed with the highlanders scrum so i think the brumbies must have been up a level again. That they defended against 3 scrum at the death was amazing.

If the highlanders had not been able to dominate the lines outs the result would have been very different

See I actually believe the Brumbies were so dominant at scrum time the Highlanders should have been in the bin for it. There was a scrum in that last 3 resets where the Brumbies were moving toward the line and instead of awarding a penalty try, which I believe it should have been,

he called the front rows as up. In my eyes, it was up under pressure caused by the much stronger Brumbies forward pack.

I'm one-eyed so saw no issues with anything! :)

I thought we might have lost someone in that last 8 mins with collapsed scrums. Seen plenty of pens given this season when 'both sides are down' in a scrum. Highlanders scrum was always going to struggle with the Brumbies one.

I actually thought Dixon got lucky that his arm wrapped enough for the AR to see it on the left side. Agree with the TMO call fro the no try with Brumbies.

I lost my s**t when I thought they had scored right at the end and got the eye from the missus.

Heart attack when we worked so hard to get the ball back near our line, then Aaron Smith was tackled straight as he picked the ball up (I'd contend Toomua was offside to get him that quickly)

We go there in the end. Stephen Larkham had a bit of a cry in the ABC interview after the game. It wasn't fair as they had clearly played the best rugby, and it wasn't fair on the players who were leaving after this season. He also said they had an exceptional game. To me, exceptional game is not being outscored 2 tries to nil, and losing 5 of your own vaunted lineouts.

Tonight:

Looks like the same awful conditions for the game tonight in Wellington. Sunny this morning, but has been squally showers in the hutt, and I can hear the wind gusts increasing (looking at weather station up Wadestown, 90km/hr gusts) will be interesting to see how this changes the game plans of the teams, favours the Sharks more, but probably not enough for an upset against a very good team (and forward pack)

If, then

Hurricanes vs Crusaders

Highlanders vs Chiefs

I was told - for semis (just like quarters) highest ranked team vs lowest ranked, middle ranked play each other.

My question is - do the HIghlanders fly all the way back to Dunedin, wait for results, fly to wherever.

Or stay in Canberra, wait for results, go from there?

They have gone to Sydney and are waiting for the outcome of overnights games.

Congratulations for a record-breaking win for the Canes. Really outstanding, hard to fault them. Sharks lost heart at 60min and I felt more or less sorry for them. I don't think they got a single "lucky" bounce, but I guess that is how it goes.

Surely BB has to be pretty much breathing down Crudens neck for a starting position, but then Cruden doesn't really fit for the AB's.

And now a record breaking win for the Chiefs! Fly halfway round the world and put the Stormers to the sword. Only the Crusaders let us down for an all NZ set of semis.
What a crock this finals format is. The Highlanders now fly halfway round the world to play the Lions while the Chiefs track in the opposite direction to play the Hurricanes. Not to mention the next set of permeations for the final, which would see the Highlanders travelling all the way back to NZ for the final, or the Chiefs all the way back to SA for the same. A Hurricanes win next weekend will definitely have them in the box seat, able to sit at home and wait for their travel weary opponents to arrive.
Having just holidayed in the USA, and seen the way they do things, maybe an East/West conference would be a better format. With a grand final between the conference winners. Achieves the goal of more local derbies and crowns an overall champion without the pingpong travel.
Having seen the gulf that is evident between NZ and the rest, I'm glad I secured tickets to another ABs game this year.

Pretty predictable results overnight - 4 out of 4 on virtual.

Let's hope the Canes can knock over the Chiefs, for no other reason than a Super Rugby final in NZ.  It wouldn't seem to be fair if the final was anywhere but with how dominant the NZ sides were this year.

Won't a Highlanders win secure an NZ final regardless? Plus home advantage if it's the Chiefs?

Yes it will - didn't really consider that, probably because that Lions v Highlanders game will have the Lions as overwhelming favourites I would think.  The travel will take its toll on the poor Highlanders.
