joker97:

PS there was a "knock on" that was called when the Lions were about 2 on 2 with only the full back to beat, only 1 video replay angle shown!

Usually when there are no video replays of critical calls it's because the home side decided not to show it ... very suspicious ...

Knock on against Lions, not called?

The Lions outside backs were quite good. I think there 2nd 5 and centre are a bit too similar, I would swap out Te'o.

As for the forwards I think the Itoje needs to start and maybe a better ball running hooker.

THat's what I call an entertaining match!

+1

It was very entertaining to watch.

I hope Lions confidence is not hurt too much before second test, otherwise it won't be as interesting :(

It's Lions B, Lions A shouldn't be affected.

Poor Lions result. They looked like running away with it given regular errors by the Canes, then they lost momentum bigly. North was great

I still have concerns about the ref. The fact that the other three officials (2 ARs and the TMO) had to get him to revisit the tip tackle on Barrett about four times before he could see it was a yellow card offence, not just a penalty.

The game itself was really entertaining. Imagine how it would have been if the Hurricanes had been able to field the rest of their ABs.
George North should be in their test team. Maybe Gatland can't be seen to be favouring Welsh players too much.

Agree re the ref, although he cant be everywhere and players get in the way. It needs to be like tennis where there are many refs, with the aim that every penalty gets caught. Thereby the refs are not part of the result with bad ref calls being commentated on.

The Saveas and the Carters all have bad days. It might mean the ABs lose.

The refs also have bad days. It might mean the ABs win (or lose).

Do you think we should have a team of refs that do ref run arounds throughout the week and a panel of selectors watch them and pick the 3 for the weekend?

But yes if you have a referee the controversies will increase in proportion to how complex the rules are. Which is why they have 4 referees. Sometimes, like last night - it works! A yellow card was correctly awarded. Sometimes, even with the 4 fellas, Scotland would be denied a chance to beat Australia at a RWC knockout.

All depends if you want a game where the result is devoid of refs mistakes. Or if you want a game where you accept refs mistakes. No one wants that, which is why, every game someone whines about it. I would prefer a game where there were enough eyes on the game, so that makes it difficult to make a ref mistake. Last night gave a good example. Not hard to get more eyes.

That was a relief that the series is alive going to next week!

Man the BIL really tried really hard to lose for about 50 mins this time, then suddenly woke up when they were both at 14 men, and then pulled away when they were back at 15v14.

That's how I saw it anyway. Which is good, that means next week's game is worth watching. Hopefully the Lions want to win next week, otherwise it will be another steamroll with 15 vs 15.

So why when your shoulder contacts the head of a player who is failing in a tackle is it a red card, but when your shoulder contacts the head of a player who is defenceless on the ground you get a yellow. What makes it worse is Vunipola had previously been penalised for a late shoulder charge. I don't disagree with SBW's red, by the laws of the game, regardless of intent, it was red. But so was Vunipola's.
Cruden's decision to go to the cross kick with two minutes to go was just the wrong thing to do. If it came off, particularly when it was so wet it would have been the ultimate Hail Mary, but in the end all it did was give away possession and the game.
Two tries to none and one missed penalty to three. That was the difference, it's a shame it was against 14 men. But that's sport.
I am looking forward to next Saturday. Hope it's fine.

Edit: And even now watching some of the match analysis, I just watched Vunipola remove Cane from a ruck with a neck roll. I'm trying hard not to blame the officials......

Slow mo replay makes everything look really bad. But yeah I've been complaining about refs since large screen TVs existed in my house. By the way how they generally rule, card colour is how bad it looks on the big screen. It looked like a red to me when I first saw it.

I just want to know how the last penalty was tackling a player in the air. The next thing we know everyone will be bouncing like kangaroos to get the penalty.
It was just a tackle for Pete's sake.
