Sorry to hear it, we have spent the last 4 days in Starship with my 2 year old (Well my wife has), trying to work out the cause of it. Was very scary when they suggest bone scans etc.

Red and black eye patch anyone? ;-) Confirmation bias makes us all due the game differently.
Having just rewatched part of the game, McCaw had an average game for him. Possibly because he was trying to do Kerryn Reid's job as well, in his absence. He did throw the intercept pass. He played the last world cup with an injured foot so I think he needs to be managed so he is fit and at his best come Sep/Oct next year.
Interesting that two of the first fives some favour weren't even picked for the tour initially! Cruden and Barrett ahead of the others IMO.

Well I am a Red and Black supporter, but make no mistake, when it comes to the AB's I'll support whoever is playing well.

I think a number of players had average games because they didn't have cohesion that takes time to build, didn't help the ball was slippery either.

The bench (more experienced players) had a massive impact, which is good.

He's the most important ingredient in our winning the tough games.

When fielding a second string team its extra important to have some old heads in there to lead the way, and he is the ultimate "follow me" type leader.

I lol when people say he had a bad game/needs to retire etc.

What a game! The Welsh really played pretty well. Williams had a forgettable game as did a number of other players.

Well it wasn't quite the definitive season that I enjoyed last year watching our mighty AB's go unbeaten in the Northern Tour and lose only once this year, but the bottom line is, we still win almost every single game. I wish we were doing better at the breakdown and also that our general handling wasn't quite so shaky.

Slade was my Hero for this tour, he really stepped up and showed his class. I am looking forward to the Crusaders season (He was pretty significant for them last year. Expecting big things from DC this season.

Ritchie McCaw, if not the greatest Rugby Player of all time, I am not sure who would qualify.

Gave me a little satisfaction to see Ireland beat Australia as well.

Couldn't agree more. Barrett and SBW did nothing for me until Barrett moved to fullback and SBW went off. Leads me to believe that Barrett is only good enough for that impact role off the bench at either 10 or 15.

Was a great game though, a lot closer than I would've expected for the most part. Really shows that you need to play for the full 80!

I hope they see past the big muscles and the dollar signs with the SBW - he played like a number 8 who didn't know he was a number 8.

I thought we have most position and their layers of depth sussed apart from who starts 10 and who backs 12.

The welsh played well but ran out of steam after 60 minutes. The ABs hung in there and then pulled away after that. Can't really say the swap in positions had any special effect for this game only, as the ABs traditionally do that.

Not sure if the impact swaps are SH's secret recipe - maybe it is! I've figured out the secret sauce!

G
iven these ratings most of which I agree with, we still beat a fired up and well playing Welsh side.

Ben Smith does nothing for me at Full Back, I agree Dagg isn't quite as compelling as he has been previously but I'd still pick him and think the game would have gone better with Dagg 15, BS at 14, and Crotty at 12. I felt they should have replaced SBW at 12 at half time. He clearly wasn't on his game.

I am not sure what crisis you are referring to, I'd be happy with any number 10, but my number 1 pick now would actually be Slade.

We have a serious depth issue at 9, I mean really serious. They need Andy Ellis, as Pulu, Kerr Barlow (Isn't test level ready by a long shot) and even Perenara aren't even close.

The Australian number 9 Phipps is one to watch!

I didn't think SBW played particularly well but it didn't help when he got at least 3 hospital passes from Barrett. Barrett got exposed a bit as he couldn't read the rush defense. We need to be prepared to put the ball in behind and back our defense.

One thing that could be interesting is seeing a game with Barrett at fullback. It may be a better position for him as he'd get more opportunities in space, which is what he's good at.

I think one of the issues we have with the team is we have too many players that "could" be in the squad. That leaves the selectors (whoever they are, whatever it is they "do") confused. We have positions that have the right depth - top 2-3 choices slot in and out without being noticed. Then we have positions that have too much talent and no idea who really should play at number 1. I think the "selectors" have a set combination going - if x plays here then y plays there sort of a combo. Then there are positions where we are kind of exposed, because they try to have young talent backing but actually when you put them there they don't do the job, maybe the next Stephen Donald isn't Slade, but Ellis as you say. Heck even Justin Marshall could play there ha

I remember there was a time when the ABs swept everything clean leading up to the RWC. One bald man told people you're in, you're out. He's got his first team sussed. Still lost to a Stirling Mortlock runaway intercept, and Gregan and Stephen Larkham playing with half an arm and one leg.
