TMO's and Refs can hand out a Red card maximum on field.

If they decide it's red, then WR examines if afterward and say it wasn't they are slammed. If they decide it might be but err on the side of safety and WR with a million cameras and hours to pour over the converage, say its' red, they get slammed.

If they issue a red on field, it's game over for the other team. If they issue a yellow on the safe side, then at least they didn't completely kill a teams chance of winning or losing the match.

There is no win no matter what.

Well, what sort of team would the hosts be fielding if they used Nationals only? It's a bit of a stupid article in my opinion, there are actually very few teams that have a significant number of imports playing at the RWC. There might be 1-2 in a squad of 31 for some teams.

If Japan didn't have 3 year residency, the hosts wouldn't have a team. If they want Rugby to become global, then you need to field teams and put in performances that make the younger local generation want to play rugby, so that in the longer term you have teams made up of majority nationals.

That's a very different conundrum to something being looked at and ruled totally fine and not even worth a penalty by the TMO.

Then later it turns out it should have been a red card and a team has the benefit of an extra man; and the Fijian team down a hitherto dominant player who fails an HIA.

In my mind, that's an entirely different kettle of fish to "we gave a guy a red instead of a yellow". It's not like it's something they missed either that only came out later - they looked at it at the time. They still decided it was fine.

This particular example seems particularly egregious I agree.

It's also mind boggling to me that the Samoans weren't cited at least for 1 of their two tackles.  They followed a protocol and whilst there was a slight drop in the tackled players height, the question about force both times were no. I am unsure what the definition of force is in Rugby, but in my mind there was no doubt there was huge force.

NZ just needs to ensure we don't give a referee control of the outcome of the game, as much as possible. I was hugely impressed at only 4 penalties in a game as super sized as the Bok's one. Comparitively the last game against the Boks we drew, it was 13.

The latest 1014 video talked about why we won against the Bok's. It's a good watch for sure.

Its supposed to be a World Cup, country vs country. Japan would have a team just Japanese. If that reduces them, then that's accurate. Islanders do well in other teams as well. Essentially you can make up your team using anyone, just don't call it a World Cup.

I've watched a fair number and the other ones I've watched the mini games on kayo.

Ireland were hugely impressive against Scotland and France in the first half were beautiful as only France can be. The rest has been pretty meaningless which is OK, tournaments are won in the last week, not the first week.

The refereeing has been awful. Not so much on the head high tackles but the tier 2 teams get screwed consistently. I really hope that we don't get Angus Gardiner, or the French referees in a big game. They just make stuff up. I think Wayne Barnes and Nigel Owens are so far ahead of any other referee its frightening.

If Japan hadn't of imported players, they wouldn't have qualified.

Are you saying we should have had the cup hosted in a country where the host can't play, or are you saying it shouldn't be in Japan?

There are two teams who are heavily reliant on imports, both countries they are trying to develop the game in their part of the world. Neither are contenders to win, so I don't see how it makes one bit of difference.

I haven't checked Irelands roster (since it was one team mentioned) but they only mention one player Bundee Akee.

What about coaches? I notice no mention of the nationality of them in their article.  If you remove coaches and players from the equation, who are outside of their country of origin, there isn't going to be a rugby world cup, there will be NZ being given the trophy each four years. Only SA and Australia would qualify to attend, we already beat SA, I'd expect us to beat Australia.

I'd agree around refereeing who would have thought we would be asking for Barnes :)

France was unbelievable in that first half. Amazing stuff. Looked like Ballet!

If you didn't watch Uraguay Fiji, that's a great game.

I think the Referees have been given conflicting agendas and they seem muddled in what they are supposed to be policing. I think their brief needs to be clearer for round two.

Last night I finally caught up. So now I am at the point where I am just watching live games. Two tonight, doesn't leave much time for anything else.
