Handle9: We can blame the referee as much as we like but the All Blacks had a double digit lead in the final quarter and got run over. The last quarter the refereeing had minimal impact, poor decisions and an inability to cope with pressure was what lost the game.

When a referee calls don’t change your bind and then tells you to get out of a maul you don’t just stand there. It was far from the only example of sloppy work around the ruck and maul. When we’re under pressure bee are making poor decisions in the breakdown

Our exits this year have been the worst I’ve ever seen. The attention to detail isn’t there. If it was Ian Foster coaching this side there would be baying for blood.

I said before the game a 5-3 bench looked like the wrong call and I think it was. The backline substitutions seemed to make things worse not better.

I'm inclined to agree overall. It is pretty galling to see 5 points get awarded that should not have been though. Less than 5 points in the final scoreline.

It was quite late when we starting subbing and I had figured it was to try and blast the boks in the last 15-20 minutes, but as has been the case this year, our replacements aren't having the impact I imagine is desired, instead our cohesion disappears. Hopefully, with some more time that will get rectified, but it's frustrating.

Watching some footage it looks like we may have even gotten the rub of the green with the refereeing.

The Taylor try looked like it was truck and trailer at the setup and the high shot from Cane that broke Kolisis cheekbone was never reviewed.

I thought Reiko had a pretty decent game, his best for a while, and Clarke was good on the whole, though he and Te'lea both missed regulation tackles.

Canterbury look well below average for the last 18+ months. It's really quite unfortunate. They have some serious talent and look so badly organised.

The game plan and leadership looks broken.

This mornings game was a lot closer than I picked it to be, I honestly thought SA would put 12+ on us.

I really wasn't impressed by the refereeing, but I cant blame the game on him. Look at the stats.

We conceded 14 penalties vs 5, that right there is enough to hand the game over. As @networkn said, when we go to our bench this year we tend to fall apart and there is not the impact you expect.

Looking forward to the next game. I am keen to watch a reply of the ARG Vs AU game in the next day or two as well.

I don't think he's any more prone to cards than a most loose forwards. His 4 yellows and 1 red are equal to Scott Barrett's 3 yellows are 2 reds. Far less than Michael Hooper's 9 yellows, or even Bryan Habana's 7 yellows. Yes that red card may have cost us the world cup final, but you can't say he's any more carded than others in his position.

Jordan got stood up a couple of times, it was really weird. The outside backs have some big work to do defensively, all of them.

That's easy to miss on the field given the turning at the point of impact. It's still easy a yellow with the way the rules are currently, and the first game the Aussies played took the enforcement to another level so arguably a red?

Having said that, the TMO's job is not to miss things. And Sam Cane probably should have learned this lesson by now. I don't think he can expect much sympathy if this gets called up/cited.

If you give a a top level outside back a one on one they are going to standup their opposite. Kolbe, KLA and Fassi are about as good at it gets.

You have to slow the ball down or you’re toast.

I don't remember anyone making Will Jordan look as flat-footed on defence as he seemed today.

@GV27 it was more a childish response by me after being vindicated in what I said about Sam Cane and his tendency to complete sloppy tackles.

Cane to start, that feels like a good decision to me. I think finally people are starting to see what he provides. We haven't got anyone who shifts bodies like him to replace him when he goes, and that's a serious problem.

We will have to see.  Historically his issue has been coming back after injury to fire on all cylinders and so people finally seeing is not really true, its the consistency he has lacked.  But agreed when he plays well he is a big asset.  He has got history with ill discipline in the ruck and tackle space which under the newer rules does not serve the team well.  I get the feeling this occurs more often with him because he is pushing the limit on physicality, which is no good if you site out the game from the 28 minute mark...

I've been impressed by the way Robertson has dealt with the refereeing. He's made the point without being a jackass and looked exasperated with the press trying to push the issue.

He hasn't taken the cheap way out which is impressive.

Just eat the humble pie, and put your tail between your legs. Not a big deal.

Stuff have continued the fine tradition of New Zealand rugby “journalism” by claiming the tackle that broke Kolisis cheekbone went unpunished on the field.

There was a penalty given against Cane for a high tackle. IMO it was the incorrect punishment but it was punished.

Typically useless from the New Zealand rugby press.
