KiwiNZ:

The Football played with the oddly shaped round ball can go, and very often, for 90 minutes with zero scoring.

American Football is played for 60 minutes, 30 each way.

Your point is?

With Football there doesn't have to be any scoring for the game to be entertaining and exciting to watch.

It has to be said, 60 minutes is the play length but the average NFL game length and at college level is just over 3 hours.

bazzer: Whatever anyone feels about the sport, the Super Bowl (n.b. spelling ) is the pinnacle, the most important game in the sport. It's one of the most watched sporting events in the world.

In the US no doubt, do you have any figures for the rest of the world, and then compare these to the Tennis Opens. Golf Opens, UEAFA Cup etc.

Big Mal,

It would appear you are a BIG NFL fan and good on you for being such a big fan. Could it be your experience with interest in NFL is related to your interest and those around you share your interest and or because they know you have an interest in the NFL?

I have only a passing interest in Rugby, Cricket, Football, etc, I detest Rugby League, yet I hear regularly comments about all these sports.

DrCheese (David)

My 4 hours was conservative factoring to allow for the fact that a Football game is 90 minutes or Rugby Football 80 minutes against the 60 minutes for an American Football game. I didn't intend to infer that an American Football game went for 4 hours.

wakaridnnz: I really enjoyed the NFL and it's probably what I missed the most when I kicked SkyTV into touch.

After Sommet started screening it I grabbed the NFL Game Pass app off the Play store and went back and watched the good games.

If you want to see the best ever pass by a QB (imo) go back and have a look at the NY/Denver game in week 2.

Eli Manning might look like he's just stepped off the set of the movie Deliverance! but he sure can throw a football.

He did look rather peed off during the game..  I could just about hear him say while looking at the sky. "Oh great football god , what have I done to deserve this."  It was indeed a route..

Regards,

Old3eyes

wakaridnnz: The Super Bowl is now up on the NFL Game Play app and the condensed version of the game is 43m 32s

Hey thanks, I might sit down and watch this later.

I don't have those figures and it's irrelevant. Those events get coverage (and more of it?) too!

Technofreak: Superbowl how many in New Zealand really care?

Responses to this topic indicate it's getting to be a fair number. Btw, there are a fair number of Samoan and Tongan players in the NFL and that has an effect on NZ's interest in NFL also.

Nope, definitely talking about the Eli Manning pass in the first quarter around about the 10.30 minute mark.

You were my unknown, because I didn't watch that game (and they both played, obviously). But old3eyes is surely thinking of big bro? (unless I've misunderstood the whole exchange!)

Eli's pass in the Superbowl against the Pats is considered one of the greatest plays of all time. He avoids 2 sacks, throws a hail mary and the receiver catches the ball between one hand and his helmet.

Found that pass, it's a cracker.

NonprayingMantis:
So you get 12 mins of action in 3 hours. No wonder people get bored by it.

You're thinking of Cricket. ;-)

bazzer:

When you flick through the NZ Herald's sports section (and ignoring the pages listing the horse racing entries), what you see is: rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, golf, rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, netball, rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, cricket, ugby, rugby, rugby, rugby, rugby.

You might occasionally get something like rowing when someone wins a big event, but otherwise it's not actually a "sports section", but a "rugby news section" with the odd bit of other sport thrown in to fill a gap.
