If he starts nine/10 then I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get a podium.

For everyone, final placing will depend on the start and luck and quick thinking during safety cars

We can see that Merc are about 0.8s faster per lap than Force India and much faster than the other teams. This track has ample overtaking opportunities and I reckon that Hamilton, subject to the car starting ok, should be up to somewhere around 4th by the end of the first lap and chasing Nico down not long after... Hamilton seemed faster than Nico in general but we do know that the merc is a poor follower, but that should not be such a problem here as its generally stop/start with high speeds in-between.

Poor McLaren though, that Honda engine is a dog.

The GP2 race was a mess, I assume that main mess was turn 1 at the start. Short run to turn 1, anything can happen, and probably will. Someone said that, some famous guy....

Id like to hope they all get through lap 1 so we can have a great race, but thats not gonna happen

At least he blamed himself for once, not even the sun that his fans latched onto. Says he couldn't get rhythm, and that was pretty clear from the errors.

At Baku, not much for him to worry about, he can tow past them over the first 6 laps and be in the first 4.

Just hope its not a race where luck, good and bad, on safety cars decides the result.

F1 is not GP2 :) but ... I'd love to see what happens in F1! Now that you'd said it, they just might just all start fine ...

Today's V8 race at Hidden Valley is going to look like kid's play compared to night's F1 race frown

Yep, GP2 isn't F1, the drivers cause that. But F1 drivers, while better, also dont have 4 sets of eyes which would be quite handy at times.

TBH, I view V8s as bumper cars with gears. Although Bathurst is pretty cool. Though I also view F1 as go-kart beds that cost a lot of money and hard as heck to control

I can easily see the top three starting fine, so fingers crossed for that.

Off to google where Baku is...

Race feels like a travel advert for the city at this stay.

no safety car this year!

interesting how the engineers can't tell what's wrong with the car if it behaves funny but not a safety issue.

No F1 safety car has ever been deployed at Baku ;-)

Yes - interesting regarding the radio comms.  Also interesting to note the "split" in drivers' opinions on the matter...   For the most part, it seems to be the "old hands" - former champions like Alonso, Hamilton and Raikkonen who are most vocal in their criticism, whereas the less experienced drivers (such as Max Verstappen) seem more comfortable adapting to the new state of play.

I suspect that if the young kids also had the issues with the engine mode that Raikonnen and Hamilton had they wouldn't be be able to solve it either... It just doesn't normally happen unless you knock a switch (e.g. Nico) as the teams prepare the engine modes.

Remember that Hamilton, Rosberg etc. are children of the console generation and so is used to the idea of 100s of changes that can be made on the wheel, its not just the new kids.

Either way, I'm disappointed in the radio ban to a certain extent.  I'd like them to be able to communicate engine map problems like this as it clearly affected both the drivers to the detriment of their race but still keep the driving aiding away.
