Jaxson: Yep he's banking on others backing down and giving him space, but with vettel shutting the door, Kimi couldn't do that.

Combo to me. Vettel cut way too tight across them all, and Vers is trying to force a gap like it's a video game.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. Max thinks he's playing video games.

benokobi: Craziest start to a race I've seen recently.

Max is crazy. All testosterone and no brains. Its a weekly thing now it seems. When you see other drivers defending and fighting its even more obvious.

Apparently that was what Senna and Schumacher were like when they started in F1

Aggressive, or crazy? There is a difference. Going for a gap thats tight and one that is there, but as with any gap at an inner apex will always close unless you are there first

As has been said in the media (who love him), he takes a gap because he wants it no matter what. Video game you pop another coin in, F1, you forgo points after points after points. Vettel, yes, but not that much yes. It was a two car corner, he left room for Kimi, who had a few feet gap to the inner apex. Max wasn't there yet. Even Horner wasn't the usual and expected response, he tactfully implied that the gap wasn't there. In fact he was lucky to clear the guy behind him as he cut to the inner.

He had momentum, he could have gone the outer route, and had a possibility of a higher exit speed, and possibly passed both before the left kink in Eau Rouge. If not, he was well and truly in the race for big points

Bottom line is that his teammate ran 2nd.

Fairly lack lustre race. One Mercedes driver began well and won, thats normal. The other didn't and recovered, normal. Max behaved himself.

All we need is the gap closed between Merc, RBR and Ferrari, then we will have an edge of the seat race. That probably wont happen in 2017, as with a heap of changes, they wont all nail it. One will nail it, the next will have done a good job, the next has work to do, like the last 3 years. Ugh.

I've decided this is the last year I'm watching f1. Time better spent elsewhere. And that also means i can ditch sky because the all blacks are just as boring as f1 (ie you know the result before the game is played, and every time there is a contest the you know who the ref is likely to side)

Fair call. I felt that in the Ferrari/Schumacher days. Processional was the catch word then. But I dont find that now. For the first two yes. I tend to watch all of FP1, the last 45 minutes of FP3, and I find the action, commentary and banter and info adds a lot. So for me, a dullish race, isnt that big a hit to me.  I also watch GP2/3, just the races.

Well - that was a significant failure of safety systems at the Singapore GP!

Shades of Kyalami 1977, just without gruesome outcome.  FIA are investigating, I just hope that meaningful improvements come from this rather than a C.Y.A. whitewash.

Wasn't there a spectator in there last year? Don't think there was much made of it other than locking the gate.

Anyway, do Ferrari not know how to make good decisions? Put Kimi out one lap too far and lost the podium. Probably was going to lose the podium anyhow, but the way it happened was a bit of a lame duck.

Quite enjoyed the race. Not very eventful, but some good moments.

Martin B made an interesting point, that so often, a race is ruined at the start, as runners are lost from the meat of the race. Suggesting a form of start process where ironically, bring technology in to help assist the start so everyone gets away. Countless races Ive watched and couldn't wait for that were ruined at the start when one or more usual suspects were put out.

Kyvat +1.

The end looked fun, but seen too many races where the closing gap drama never unfolds.

Back to normal transmission in Sepang.

Enjoying the pre race these days, lots being talked about.

Weren't Ferraris only wins last year in Singapore and Sepang?
Now they're fallen further back than that and most likely won't win a race this year.
Mercedes have been either first every race or last/retired.

Mercedes have been like that for these three seasons. 1-2 unless a failure/incident. Ferrari are very good, BUT, they are only very good. RBR's power is "good" but their mechanical and aero downforce is excellent, so they can compete on the few tracks that suit that. Ferrari doesnt have any "excellents" to grab any wins. Mercs are a long way ahead still. RBR was close in quali and the race but on a track that is Merc worst and RBR's best. Last weekend was the worst possible scenario for Mercedes and they still got pole and the win.

Maybe the new owners of F1, will make it an even laying field for the teams. That is so lopsided its not funny. Richer get richer and the poorer get poorer, so under that regime you will always have a "class system" in F1, where few can break out of the lower classes

Watched the race last night. Again, robbed of a real race on turn 1.

Im not a Hamilton fan, but feel for him losing his car.

No idea why Max got driver off the day, I never saw anyone worthy of that, good racing at times, but nothing that stood out

Still plenty to race for, for the top two though, the pressure on Nico to defend the lead, i.e. not race hard, and Lewis will go for it with nothing to lose.

I'm going to be bold ... The race will go to either the red bulls if it's sunny because they have the least soft tyres. Apparently the soft tyres isn't lasting one lap when it's hot.

Ok maybe not so fast ... the top cars are fine on the softs ... but tyre selection could be important in a dry race ...

Watched the race. More interesting than expected, given overtaking is supposed to be hard, but there was plenty. Why was Max driver of the day again? Like Malaysia, I didnt really see any driver standing out. Nico nailed the weekend, Lewis lost out at the start, I expect bogging as concerned over spinning up on the side that had some dampness. He needs to sort that. First signs that he's giving up, when he sprayed Nico with champagne on the podium. Usually he keeps his interaction with his teammate, well, zero.

Snapchat gate was weird. I saw it as disrespectful of him to giggle away with his mobile during the driver conference. Current champion, only six drivers, and media questions. And to not answer a question as it was on his Instagram?? Strange.

Four to go, 33 the diff. Its DNF time, as clean results wont cut it.
