True, very true. But I see him as a free wheeler, but when it comes to pressure he seems to fold. He admitted he basically goes after every shot, perhaps if he was less pre emptive that would help, but IMO when the crunch happens, he caves. You can't play every shot as high risk high reward.
Yeah he has folded many times for NZ, but I think that was when we expected him to convert being the best 1st class avg with full on aggression. I think that expectation has warn off.
Im not anti guptil yet, I just think given Finn allen is in form and Guppy has zero, Allen had to be a selection.
Aus are a 230+ team, batting strong to 8, nz only to 6, then a couple of avg all rounders.
Omg here we go.
This is Williamsons selection and captaincy. He is far too defensively minded to be NZs captain. I could interchange him with Ross, who will score more aggressively. As for captain I think we need to find an aggressively minded young player for captaincy of the white ball teams.
NZ going to get rick rolled here, Williamson and Larsen both dibbly dobbly minded people, this is the outcome. Keep these players but throw Allen and Munro in the same team some how, which means williamson has to bowl.
NZ need 190+ and there is zero chance now of getting there.
NZ open Conway and Allen, Munro next, Williamson, Seifert/Guptil, Phillips. NZ needs to adapt to turn the t20 team into a bat heavy team, currently with 3 bowling all rounders it is piss weak in the middle order.
Conway showing what could have been if Allen was with him.
Frustrating. Perhaps if Allen becomes a perm, which Im 99% sure he will, he could become NZs white ball captain in time.
Williamson is kidding himself selecting this team, its not a test, let alone an ODI. Allen and Conway opening = 100 from 10 overs and it comes off more often than Guptil and Munro, although I still want them some how in the mix.
Im not anti Guptill. I am pro bringing new blood in where th old blood is fading. Ross is the same. Its not like we have no real options from debutantes.
Not Kanes fault, its the players that score the runs.

Ross Taylor has had 1 score this year wogging across the line in a ground with 45 metre side boundaries.
Allen against proper bowling, not the 2nd XI bowling that he faced in a high percentage of the Super Smash is no better than any other current black cap. If you actually look at his form over the whole domestic season he has had a couple of good innings of which 3 were on postage stamp grounds.
This game is showing the vast gap in the quality of bowling in the BBL v Super Smash. Super Smash is a second rate competition compared to the BBL.
I agree. I have no problem with Williamson being the ODI Captain I think it’s time for someone else to captain the T20 side.
I really hope when they play their next ODI that Conway will be playing.
If NZ want to win games and world cups they need to select their best 11. If you continue to select people like Guptill, this is the results your going to get.
Yep, but Conway will be a permanent fixture, Im confident of that. Every game.

Aus simply picked a bat heavy team, NZ picked 50% of its test team, where 2 of those all rounder spots have not really performed, especially Neesham. Boult is a worry, is he ever going to find form again?
NZ have to get the depth in T20i, they have Taylor, Munro, Allen as the 3 remaining awesome players. Munro, Allen, Conway, Phillips, Seifert and maybe Guptill are the guys who will get 10rpo. Throw in williamson but take his captaincy away, because HE is part of he team selection panel, he is just not a t20 minded player, but can help rebuild, but I think Taylor is better in this situation. There is one spot that is difficult to fill to keep 5 bowlers with Williamson being 1. I think NZ with williamson can bat fully to 7. And then you get some decent all rounders.
To think Finn Allen made these 2 players this season look fairly pedestrian.
We may not win this match, but put those 2 players in, pick an aggressive captain, and NZ can be competitive.
A little turn from Zampa, Sodhi rips it maybe 30% harder, will be interesting, but he doesnt actually bowl his wristy often which is a shame, he has the ability to bowl around the legs. Still he has a good start to his t20 career. I want to see how he bats haha.
Richardson is hard work, glad hes nearly off. If these 2 survive with Jye gone, they might score 200.

Dochart: If NZ were to bring Conway and Philips in the opening slots and put Munro at 4 and Taylor at 5 would be so much better for the team.
Gotta be Conway and Allen though, Conway plays a support to Allen who is just a cut above any other NZ batsman.
We have 4 Aucklanders jammed in there, Allen, Guptil, Munro, Phillips.
I reckon
Allen
Conway
Munro
Taylor
Phillips
Williamson (B)
Seifert
Jamo (B)
Santner (B)
Sodhi (B)
Southee (B)
That is a 230+ team. Bats to 9.

Thats a giggle mate, the only way that looks is a troll. Yeah NZ doesnt have as much stock as Aus, but if you watched "HOW" Allen bats, you would know he is capable against all of NZs best bowlers who are as good as Aus bowlers. So thats just a negative speculation on one of NZs best young talents. IS that you Gavin Larsen?
Conway, 2 sensational 4s and a lap sweep 6. He supports Allen, which is how scary NZ could be with those two opening. Conway way form of 90+no in his last 2 matches.
It is not a troll.
You said he is NZ's best batsman. He averages 18 in NZ domestic one-day cricket. 19 in NZ first-class cricket. He averaged 15 in 3 innings against Canterbury. Got a low score against full-strength ND.
The way you go on you think he was the best batsman NZ ever produced.
