... Stead makes some very strange decisions at times, reckon it's time we changed the coach, the team has been very erratic this year in all 3 formats.

Was also perplexed by Wagner not being a first-pick the past 12 months.  It seems like he's gone away from the short stuff in favour of pitching up more, so maybe that's why he not getting the games, but the man has heart and determination and he finds a way to get the job done.  I'd pick him before Southee and Boult in any test side.  When NZ needs a wicket, he finds a way.

Can't understand that either, with Wagner's short pitched bowling he added variation to our attack - he'd have to be the most accurate short pitched bowler in the world too, and because he's pretty short the ball tends to come through about throat to helmet height, making him very difficult for all top order batsmen to face... always amazes me how super fit the bloke is, he can run all day, but hardly seems to get tired.

That's a shame mate to pay all that money to go to England to watch us play so poorly, was a really gutless effort by us in the Test Matches.

Thanks mate, the match was a bit of a disappointment but I wouldn't change the experience for anything.  I went to the Boxing Day test match in 2019 as well, so my strike rate with wins on tour hasn't been the best.  However, I'd always wanted to see NZ play at the MCG and Lords in tests before I got too old and now I've done that.  Looked at the actual Ashes in the museum, been up in the Spaceship at the Nursery Ground end, been in the Long Room and up in the player's rooms and sat on the balcony.  Can't recommend it enough if you are a fan of the game.

Hopefully this T20 will get away in Wellington this evening.  The weather is not looking the best.

Must have been a brilliant experience thermonuclear going to Lords to watch NZ play at the home of Test cricket... also to check out all the other stuff at Lords.

I enjoy Test cricket far more than the short formats... in Tests you get battles within battles, each team trying to win each session etc.

Strange how the rain tends to follow cricket around, rain ruined the match last night, but this arvo in Wgtn we have plenty of blue sky.

Yeah, I can't recommend making the pilgrimage enough, artbloke, if you're a lover of the game.  Like you, test cricket is where it's at for me.  I don't mind a decent ODI as well, but T20 I can take it or leave it.  I know the hit and giggle stuff is where all the money is these days, but nothing will ever beat a test match for me.

The future tours programme has NZ playing a Lords test and the Boxing Day test at the MCG, both in 2026.  At this stage I'm really keen to do both trips again and see if we can get a couple of victories, four years to save up the cash and covid should be properly dealt with by then.

Just depends on how the team is travelling I think.  After the past few years of unparalleled top form, I hope we can rise again.  Think most of the batting should still be about by then, the bowling attack will be quite different though.

It's normally Napier that has the big problem with cricket and weather.  I go out for a run most nights at 7:30-8pm for an hour and every day this past week it's been a decent day but I've got rained on during the exercise.

Just looked at the long range and we are expecting a fine day on Tuesday with a top of 29 degrees, no rain.  Can almost guarantee we'll see some on Tuesday evening, no matter what the forecast is saying.

Yeah, Test cricket is a great game mate... concentration/patience is a huge factor, because it's played over 5 days.

Would be brilliant to go & watch NZ at Lords... but will probably just end up going to the Boxing Day Test at the MCG over the ditch.

Reckon we will rise again when we lose a few of our main players... as you say most of the batting will still be there, it's replacing our top quality opening bowlers, Boult & Southee that's going to be a bit of a problem.

Napier usually has great weather, but yeah, Napier does tend to get rained out more than other places in NZ when it comes to cricket... hope it's fine on Tuesday.

A Boxing Day Ashes test is well worth it as well. We went in 2013 and it was awesome.

The T20 World Cup final last year was great as well. I enjoyed the India game more as we won but there’s nothing like big games for a buzz around the ground.

Yeah, when Boult got the wicket fourth ball of the first over in 2019, I've never heard more noise in a single moment at a sporting event.  I was up the top of the Great Southern Stand and the place literally shook like an earthquake.

Would really like to do an Ashes test as well, next series in Australia is 25/26.  Might be a really competitive one if England keep building as they have the past 12 months.

Hopefully NZ can square things up a bit against England this summer.  I've already got my match pass to the test at the Bay Oval.  I went to the inaugural one there against England in 2019, one of the best cricket matches I've ever been to, getting the result in the final session on the final day.

That would have been cool for the Boult wicket. The NZ India game was great last year. Dubai is 50% Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi so it was a very Indian crowd and the atmosphere was amazing.

They were incredibly gracious when we won, I got lots of congratulations from Indians on the way out.

I do want to go to an IPL game in India before we leave the UAE. That’d be cool.

Looking forward to this game, but the leading 6 Indian players missing is disappointing.

So, was keeping an eye on Cricinfo the other night when they were waiting for the Wellington match to be abandoned.  Some user over there, Pete (not me), put up his proposed NZ T20 side.

Devon Conway
Finn Allen
Daryl Mitchell
Glenn Phillips
Josh Clarkson
Cam Fletcher (wk)
Michael Bracewell
Mitchell Santner (c)
Henry Shipley
Kyle Jamieson
Ben Sears

I like the idea of Fletcher coming into the side, I did watch some of the Super Smash last summer and he had something about him that definitely caught the eye.  Plus it takes the gloves away Conway who has been pretty average recently in that role.

Sears and Shipley I haven't seen enough of to have an opinion on, and Clarkson I've frankly never heard of but I understand he's an up and comer in NZ cricket.

Jamieson, I hope he can regain his form and fitness but still not sure if T20 is his game anyway.  His batting seemed to have fallen away before the injuries set in.

Who else around the NZ scene deserves a look?

I agree that Conway should not take the gloves. I would love to see Cleaver in the T20 side. He had a good Super Smash season last summer as well Bracewell.

Bracewell needs to be playing ahead of Santner or Sodhi. Should have been part of the playing XI last night and T20 World Cup.

I had a look at the records of T20 scores at the Bay Oval in T20 internationals and every team who batted first won the match. I don’t know whether they thought it might rain so much so they decided to bowl first but they didn’t lose any overs which is a shame.
