Well that was either one the greatest innings ever or the biggest choke job. Probably a bit of both.

Maxwell was insane.

The ramifications are huge, with afg not able to leapfrog the group on 4 wins, which in all likelyhood will have it coming down to NZs superior NRR (should we beat SL).

I think NZ have the batting to match any team on the day. But we need something scary, eiither KJs Bounce or Lockies 155kph. Tough one as Lockie they said was 50/50 last game, were KJ has had bad luck and is coming back from two back injuries in a row.

Caps done good overnight.  Semi-final berth as good as locked in.

Pakistan apparently need:

  • to win by 287 runs if they bat first
  • bowl England out for 50 and then get those runs in 2.3 overs if they bowl first.

to knock NZ off its perch

Without knowing this last game result, I predicted Pak would need to win by 300, pretty close guesstimate me thinks.

I said at the time, VS Eng, UNLIKELY, but POSSIBLE if Faqar gets them to 400+ and the bowlers get Eng out around 120

Either way, the kiwis were aware of this and increased the NRR, by chasing down SL score FaST. Would have been better to lose only one or two wickets, but 5, so be it. Its all said and done now. Its up to how bad Eng Really are and if they can roll Pak for about 300 would be nice. Sort of makes up for that loss in the 90s where NZ looked hot possibles and Pak came from nowhere.

Either way Pak have picked their game up the last few years which I said when they left NZ tour they would. Now always a threat.

With no games left and Ind two wins in front of Sa, its all just formalities now.

So none of these matches, even if uspsets (outside the near impossible Pak match) really mean anything.

NZ will have to try and Knock the hosts out, we werent far off the last game, we got the team to do it.

aus vs Sa, I gotta go aus as they just tourn specialists and that thrashing Sa got may have dented their mental game a bit.

Well Ind isnt such a bad one for us. We really were in their game but just couldnt get ahead of their excellent bowling squad, always just off the pace so to speak. aussie would have the mental game on us as would Sa after giving us our only real beating. To put on so many big 300s/400 is the pleasing bit, our scores were consistently good.

Home ground for Ind though must be a big assist. Looks like we have enough fit bowlers. I just hope will young puts on some runs and him Conway put on 100-150 to set it up for our excellent batting team.

Eng would have put us through after all, wiining with ease. I thought the Bangers might beat aus at one point with a solid 306. But aus top 4 just too good. and same with afg vs Sa only needing 245 with a big wobble managed to steady the ship and got there in the 48th ov.

Just as an aside to the current ODI action, this reporting of Henry Nicholls for alleged ball-tampering might be the end of his test career after he appeared to save it with the last-gasp double hundred in his last innings.

Sure do like the look of a potential test batting lineup as follows:-

Conway
Latham
Williamson
Mitchell
Phillips
Ravindra
Blundell
Jamieson
Henry
Wagner
Southee

Given that Boult is still "retired" and Southee and Wagner are coming to the end of their careers, we could use a couple of decent quicks to round out the playing XI.  Give Ferguson another go, or who on the local scene who could realistically challenge the world's best batsmen?

I think given he got to the top of the white ball game he deserved another proper go. as long as they use him as the impact bowler. he needs to get that 155kph consistently on the yorker length. If Ben Sears has recovered he was lining up as the go too young quicky.

Touring SEa next time, Phillips, Bracewell, Ravindra would be good given the first two are genuine all rounders and Ravindra can bowl, throw Santner in as the dedicated spinner despite also being good with the bat. Options with spin for sure.

I havnt read any articles yet, merely saw the Nicholls headline, surely not. Hes such a lucky bugga with the bat, why would he ball tamper. But if so, dunce. I cant say i would miss him.

I so weird with Ross Taylor looking back couple years, he was adement he was nowhere near retirement and looking forward to this WC, which heck he would have capped us off nicely, it just felt more like he was pushed. Who knows, sure his form slumped, but they all do, he showed in the Super Smash how good he still was. His white ball stats are just epic. That is who I miss, not Nickallballs.

What's the perfect all night long cricket Finals snack or set of snacks? Im thinking pies or hot dog paced out and just some good old cheesels, got my Pepsi mix ready for the new model Soda Stream. I use to drink but hang overs at my age just arent worth it, still have the occasional single malt though.

I just hope things dont get bad if we win....

GV27:

Concerning but predictable.

Sums it up. ICC do nothing to protect the smallest ICC country with our 4th white ball final series in a row along with a red ball WTC, robbed by their plainly stupid 19 debacle, where England still dont concede the actual match was a draw regardless of the name on the trophy. The ICC just do what they are told by the big nations.

Im just proud of NZ making it this far this time, with the injuries and Taylor retiring a couple years back, I thought we were lean on runs and wickets, but we had one young man finally convert his chances and the bowlers dig in as a team while bowlers dropped like flies.

Given how KJ performed in his first Ind test series in NZ with that bounce taking so many top Ind wickets, white ball or not Im surprised they didnt try him out in the round robben game. For me this Southee is passed it.

I hope we come close again and I hope if Kane has the will, will lead us to the next world cup with a very different looking team. He certainly wont be the oldest to do so.

are you going to stay up and watch it? If we score or keep them to around 300, I will stick with it unless all is clearly lost.

half an hour for toss.

Ind commentary are hyping up the payback.

NZ 3-0 in knockouts.

Its Ind's to lose, NZ will be lot more relaxed.

as for the pitch, if it is a spin pitch that plays into NZ hands.

Edit: our white ball semi finals is actually 6 in a row. Williamson's avg in finals is wicked.

Beckham kicking the ball around with Ind, sheesh, pulling out all the stops. NZ dont need such hype.

Ind won toss, batting first. I dont mind that so much, either way we have to contain them but take wickets when they try to mishit the impossible shots.

Shastri is nuts lol

They said dew might be a factor so batting second might be better for NZ but India decided to bat first so I don’t think dew would be a factor. If it was India would have bowled first.

If India score 300 that’s game over. I reckon the pitch will start to deteriorate especially since is a used pitch that has been used in the 2 previous games. If no dew on offer I’m expecting NZ would be all out for 150 with the wicket tackers being Jadeja and Kuldeep the spinners. Don’t have to sleep late tonight.

Yes due is expected.

Its hard to pick because we were only 30 short last time. We need some big scores in the top 4 though.

Ind pace attack is impressive. But I think if anything they chose the wrong pitch.

Movement in the air from Boult, if he gets it full they might get across it lbw or bowled.

Uggh, one just over the fielder and now inside edge. Frustrating already.

Interesting these two avg 40 bowling first, 10 second. makes sense bowling under the lights vs just sunshine and no assistance.

Edit: Ugggh Sharma teasing the fielders with catches just over.

Edit: Wow southee wicked slow ball, what a catch from Williamson. Finally one of sharmas goes to hand.
