TeaLeaf:

Munro again falls to the sucker ball, wide of off stump but drags it on, it is bad luck, but stop hitting wide off stump balls. I guess at least he got the run rate up after Nichols playing like a true test opener and out.

Im not going to comment on Munro anymore, but suffice to say he was the same as usual, poor. Looking at his highlights, most shots were poorly hit, or poorly thought out.  If he gets a good score he will be riding his luck. otherwise its normal transmission has been resumed.

Id expect Latham to be rock solid, so thats a help. As per Mike Hesson, India have sharpened up a huge amount. The series win, and the 4th game team lost the edge. How much? Impossible to tell but its back to serious cricket tonight.

Taylor, a pity, but 100% fine with that. He is as reliable as Munro isn'y, so a free pass from me, he isn't a robot.

Agree.... , and we have a  Boult, they don't.  Latham to open gets my vote.

We cant have Kane or Tom out now with a SR30 for Williamson.

Hold your horses, Kane 2x4s in a row.

Now if we can get to 40th over and only lose 1 wicket, we are in with a good chance. WASP is going up and down with every delivery. back to 40% now, was 21% at won stage.

He did look different tonight without defending him, he got to the 10th over, but it is that wide high ball he just cant help but hit. In saying that Williamson and latham have both french cut twice and could have gone onto the stumps.

I just think this was a stupid idea trying to hit 100 off 10 overs against the best team in the world and testing our known potential squad players in mass form, 4 in one game is stupid.

Its put pressure on Guptil and Munro and Williamsnon, clearly Nichols, Latham not much better, our whole squad except Taylor has struggled.

Speaking of Ross, that was clearly not out, ball rising and hitting knee role always goes over the stumps ok 95/100 times. WIlliamson wouldnt have lost a toss so why he not just check it and Ross would prob win us another game

You will be pleased Scott K is playing for NZ in the t20s :-). I kinda agree with you, despite being not guilty people can be morally guilty. Thats nothing in the NRL, look at Matt Johns and Sharks in CCH with that 19yo girl.

We should doddle this in, if we cant we wont beat SA either. that win against India propelled us back to 3rd behind india ahead of SA, I dont buy it. And how is Eng the best ODI team in the world but gets humiliated by the WI in 2 tests in a row. Yes different game but largely the same side.

Oh Kane. again, all you had to do is push it around. Nesham is a big hitter but asking him to knocke it around for 20 overs is a bit much. just when wasp was just in our favour.

Well this is what they wanted, to test Santner, Colin D's form and Astle at Bat under pressure. Nesham they know can bat, but needs to be more accurate and stick to a game plan with the ball.

I can feel for Neesham there. darn it, he looked to be on his way to winning this match. just forgot you need to be in your crease regardless.

Sigh well that was Pathetic.

To lose with only 6 runs an over for 6 overs is flappn useless.

Too many mess ups to list, Nichols blocking and out for 8, Munro some how chopping down on a wide off stump ball to the wickets, Taylor hard done by his captain which may have cost us the match, Williamson just losing his head at the wrong time, Latham similar, Nesham would also have taken us home but the cry for out confused him and he forgot to get back in his crease first, santner nothing with the bat again and a piss poor strike rate, astle did ok, cant blame the last 2 but thought Henry would try to hit it around and just show some faith in boult.

Id like to know what Steads and MacMillans tactics are. If its still big early runs, and intent. IMO Munro is adding pressure, Guppy can't take pressure, he cannot add extra runs, make runs appear. Kane has lost form as he now has all that to catch up on, every match. Latham is doing fine.

When I watch Munro and Guppy bat, I'm expecting a wicket. When the next three bat I don't think about a wicket. But playing catchup, is affecting their confidence, let alone management demands. Take the runs on offer. India stared real slow. Under 3.5 an over. Got 252. NZ started slow, and for a good part of the match WASP was near enough to an even game. Tonight IMO it wasn't the run rate, it was the expectation and past failures making them nervous. In essence, they have played themselves out of form.

Santner piss poor run rate? yeah, but that applied to almost them all, and as we have discussed, get set then deal with RR later. Santner batted near his average, thats fine. So did Munro admittedly....  :-)

The batting, excluding Latham and Taylor have lost confidence. T20 wont help as its a dead rubber more or less, and not an ODI, Bangers wont help they are Sri Lanka level.

I was expecting India to win every game, and NZ to get closer each game, be very competitive at the end. . Exactly hlow Sri Lanka went with us. Then we grow and a step closer to the WC but its in tatters now, and its not form its management messing with their game. Thats what killed their form. Nothing worse than lack of confidence.

I think we could have scripted this result, tbh. There's just so many head-scratching selections and order changes that it really sounds like they're trying anything and seeing what sticks. Fine in a development phase, not fine so close to a World Cup. But there's no excuse trying to win game five of an ODI series with a game plan that didn't work in games 1,2 or 3.

If Munro was meant to be building an innings, he didn't get the memo.

I still don't understand why Williamson wouldn't have reviewed Taylor's call given it hit him above the knee roll. Should be a go-to for your best batsman.

We made frankly bizarre calls with our bowlers that probably cost us the match, India's WASP went from under 180 to a final score of 250+

All of it entirely predictable and shows that the team isn't capable of changing a game-plan and the selectors haven't figured out who they actually want in their team and what they want them to do.

Fully agree. Management are either over reactionary and select you, then you get a low score so you get dropped or they keep with the proven fails. They seem all at sea, and now the players are all at sea. The upcoming T20 is a lottery so nothing to see there, or draw from. We will whitewash Bangers, so nothing to draw from there.

Bit of a pity as this team can be well worth its current ranking. I'd open with Kane and Latham from now on, and set that in stone
